My parents used to have a big problem with their villlage postie as they live next to a dead-end..well, not really alley, track is probably a better term, with about 6 houses up it. The postman often couldn't be bothered to walk up there, and so would put all the post for all the houses into my parents letterbox, and my dad, being a nice person, would take it up and deliver it.

One time my mum mentioned this at the village post office (I'm not sure if this would have had a similar response somewhere bigger) and was asked to please bring any misdelivered mail back to the post office, as they KNEW the postie was rubbish, but without official complaints and proof there was nothing they could do! To get rid of the guy it had to go through all the usual procedures and with nothing more than circumstantial evidence they were unable to sack him, whereas if people returned the post stating it had been incorrectly delivered they would have the proof they needed.

So those of you who are being kind may be making a rod for your own back. It may be quicker to return directly to your local sorting office (and be sure to tell them it was delivered wrongly, and possibly if this is a repeated thing keep a separate note yourself of what you have received) as then they have a means to remove those staff who really couldn't care less.

Technically that is wrong, but hubby pushed a few signed for things through doors on Friday and Saturday, when they looked like they were Christmas presents, otherwise people wouldn't have been able to collect them in time for the big day. Maybe your postie did the same?
Here I go again on my own....

Secondly, i hope you have all complained to your local delivery office about any problems you have had, it is the only way to get it sorted (no pun intended).

You must speak to the Delivery Office Manager to give him a chance to put it right, if that doesn't work, then you must go higher again, or even to the postal watchdog.
I complain to the delivery manager but it just seems it's a waste of time complaining around Christmas. Normally if I complain how the post is delivered to my block of flats the problem is sorted out swifely and there are no further problems until November when the temporary staff seem to start working. :(

Most of the problems seem to be that the temporary staff are too lazy to delivery the post properly i.e. walk up stairs and don't use their common sense in hiding parcels.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

  • rm is absolutely useless. Fact. Bought a laptop on a Friday and knew it was going to arrive Monday via special delivery, but went away for the weekend. On the way back I went to the sorting office (half an hour from the house), gave them my name and address. Those idiots looked everywhere but because I didn't have a card they said there wasn't anything for me. So I went home. I got home, and guess what there was a card waiting. Rang them up and was told they couldn't find it and will call me back later. 20minutes later I received a call and they'd found it - it was moved to another room (seriously !!!!!! people tbh). So off I go back into town again.

There have even been occasions where the postman (think there are different ones different days of the week where I live atm) didn't even bother knocking; just basically looked through the kitchen window, saw that it was empty, left a card and went.

    Damn I hate rm!

Just saw this thread and thought I should point out that if you are going to send anything by Royal Mail KEEP YOUR POSTAGE RECEIPTS. It doesn't matter if you think you are covered because you have been given a tracking number and have insured your item because if you lose that little piece of paper RM will refuse to pay up.

My partner sold an item to someone in the states. He got the parcel insured because the contents were worth over £300. He got a tracking number and traced the parcel up until I think it was just before or as it got to the airport. Then it just dissapeared. RM said they were sorry but the parcel appeared to have "gone missing" and there was nothing they could do about it.

Without the proof of postage, RM would not accept any responsibility for losing the parcel despite the fact my partner had the tracking number, RM had tracked the parcel right up to the point it should have left the country and therefore must have had electronic records of the parcel being paid for and insured and tracked up to that point.

Thankfully, RM had been mistaken and they hadn't lost it as the person who had bought the item contacted my partner to say it had finally arrived, a bit battered but safely. BUT, if it had been stolen by the postman or lost or the person who received the parcel had been less than honest and claimed not to have received it and demanded his money back, my partner would have not only have lost his property but would have had to send £300 to the buyer in the states.

On this occasion we were lucky and the parcel made it but I no longer feel that we can trust sending anything of value through Royal Mail.

Most people rightly expect their home insurers to pay up if their house burns down when they have paid their premiums to the company. RM's insurance appears to be just an additional optional charge that means nothing.

I don't trust Royal Mail anymore.

Insurance from Royal Mail is not worth the paper it isn't printed on.

    Strong words.

Did you expect to get your laptop without your card and ID then???

People turn up all the time without these things, and then expect to be given their valuable items, then get very upset when they are told they can't have them.

Did you think that perhaps they had not delivered it when you had called at the sorting office? also,RM get so many undeliverable items at Xmas that they don't have enough room in their normal storage area, they may have to use another, and believe me,there are loads of pakets and parcels to go through.

Why would the postman just look through the window? and what did he say when you confronted him, as you obviously saw him looking in? don't you think it would be a lot easier to give you the item rather than write out a delivery card?

    "KEEP YOUR POSTAGE RECEIPTS."

What do you think you are meant to do with them?

The receiver could not have denied having them delivered, there would be a signature to say they had.

  • So of all the people who have slagged off RM, how many have complained? (just ask your postman for the delivery office number) and were your problems resolved?

RM is like ANY company, even the Police force, there are some bad apples or things sometimes go wrong, it's unfortunate, but when you realise this, you may be a bit more tolerant.

Yes in an ideal world where everyone does their job correctly I am sure that might happen. But all postmen don't always bother to knock, stop and get a signature *rolls eyes*
