As a result, 10 out of 16 letterboxes in my block are now externally damaged (no flap or flap falling off).

My god you actually counted them?

  • First, i have to say i work for Royal Mail and have done so for 20 years.

Secondly, i hope you have all complained to your local delivery office about any problems you have had, it is the only way to get it sorted (no pun intended).

You must speak to the Delivery Office Manager to give him a chance to put it right, if that doesn't work, then you must go higher again, or even to the postal watchdog.

It's not nice to have to hear about all these problems, but i would rather you would get the situation resolved.

  • I've been waiting a week for a parcel which was posted first class last Thursday - doesn't look like it's going to arrive now does it?

Does anyone know if I can claim money back through my credit card company as I paid for the goods through Paypal (private sale) with my credit card?

There is no such thing as a first class parcel. There is a first class letter and a first class packet service available, there is a a Parcel 24. It's an ebay sellers paradise at the moment, just say the item is delayed, was it posted when they said.

I am waiting for two items sent first class, the last posting date was the 19th, but judging by the amount of mail being posted every night this week, i don't think customers have been taking this into account, i.e i have noticed nearly every big mail order company (Amazon) is guaranteeing delivery if an order is placed by 21st !!!!

Some people also seem to be under the impression that Recorded Delivery is proof of delivery, it's not! It just means that IF it get's to it's desination, you should get a signature, Special Delivery is the only guaranteed service.

Husband is a postie and has just come in from work. He said that due to the fog grounding London planes, there is a huge backlog of mail stacked up in the airports. They've been told they will be busy delivering it next week, but it means that some Christmas mail and parcels will be delayed :(
Here I go again on my own....

Yes. When they are arranged in two adjacent 4x2 grids on the wall either side of the main door that you walk through everyday, you tend to notice, especially if you intend doing something about it, which I fully accept is an unlikely notion for significant apathetic segments of society.

I would like to say that when I have had problems with Mail and I have complained. They have bent over backwards to sort things out for me. Things go missing too often these days but if a complaint is made, you are certainly not fobbed off.

If I get a red card through it always says 4 hours but I uusally go the next day or later in the week as it is a long walk to and from the collection office and there isn't a bus that goes that way.

I am glad you got a result by complaining, Royal Mail have their own Investigation Branch if you suspect theft is a problem, it's taken very very seriously.

  • Grrr, they've done it again. Today, I got something which looks like a Christmas card, addressed to the same house number as mine but in a different street. Since it's not going to get there for Christmas if I mark it "delivered to wrong address" and shove it in the postbox, I'll end up going out of my way to hand-deliver it tomorrow. I did that with someone's Xmas card last year, too.

my postman is lovely he comes at 7:35 every morning, and always waits if i have a parcel, haven't had a card in years. but then the sorting office is at the end of my road and my house is the second house on his route, he's still fresh faced at that time of the morning!
however it did take the RM 8 days to deliver a first class letter, it came this morning. why do they never lose bills?!
