Paying 'keep' HELP!!!

I think this is a wind up, but in a distant city, the basic room rate in a shared house of is £300 per month, plus Council tax, electricity, gas, share of phone and TV licence, which would wipe out most ogf the remaining £100. Household goods and food would be on top of that.
A reasonable two bed flat/house is £700 per month; in better areas it is more.
Mum could let that room at £370 per month in London, pay no income tax and ask the lodger to provide all their own food, no problem. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
My friend offered me her flat for £500 a month all in. thats all bills rent - everything. I'd take it but I'm trying to save up to go back to Uni to do my Masters. My Mum knows this but is still insisting I pay £100 a week. She doesnt seem to care about my future.0

Well I think you should take your friend up on her offer - that's a real bargain!
That leaves your mother free to find someone else to profit from, doesn't it?
Can your friend not take your brother in too? That would mean the bills were split between more if you, keeping it cheaper still.:money:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

she is caring about you and your future - shes making sure you have a roof over your head, and something to inherit when shes no longer about0 -

I think all she's doing is caring about your future. She doesn't want to see you, your brother and herself living on the streets.:j0 -
I can't believe that your 3 years older than me. I've been living alone for 3 years already! My income is currently £1250 so very similar to yours, but I pay £800 in bills and rent per month. My rent alone is £100 a week. Wish I had someone offering me a place for £400 a week all included.
Grow up please.0 -
p.s. forgive me, I've not read the rest of the thread, how much "keep" are you paying at present?Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I was a student in London and (10 years ago) I paid about £80 a week for a shared room in a grotty dive. I now live in Berkshire and I pay per month:
Mortgage £650
Gas/Elec £120
Council Tax £135
Water £21
Insurance £70
Sky/Internet/Telephone £60
TV licence £12
On top of that there is other stuff like life insurance, homecare, nursery fees etc.
I hope my kids don't turn into ungrateful whelps like you.0 -

You seem to want everything your own way.
Look, either pay your Mum what she's asking you to (Oh! Of course that's AFTER you've checked to make sure she's NOT scamming you - see my post below) or pack your stuff up and move into your friend's flat.
I'm not sure what your Master's degree will be in but this is not really that hard.
Your Mum wants £400 per month.
Your friend wants £500 per month.
Work out what you get if you stay at your Mum's.
Work out what you get if you move into your friends flat.
Decide where you will better off.
Move or stay.
Stop bleating how badly you're being treated.Again, if you REALLY, REALLY want to be sure your Mum is not scamming you (and convince everybody on here at the same time), forget about the BUDGET.
Ask to see bills, ask to see her bank statements, total it up.
Ask yourself if she's being fair.
Post the total on here, we'll tell you if she's being unfair.0
