Yes, based on OP's circs of £18000 and if they had 3 children paying £100 pw they would receive:

    £275.14 wages
    £144.74 child tax credits
£47.10 child benefit (disregarded for HB calculation)
£35.06 Housing Benefit towards rent of £100

If there were any disabilities and DLA was in payment in the household they would receive more income and more HB.

An Example of OP receives an award of low rate dla they would receive an extra £32 in HB as well as the £18.95 dla

I work out that they would get £17.44 Housing Benefit.

    Income - £419.88
    Applicable Amount - £292.86
    Excess Income - £127.02

    Eligible Rent - £100.00
    Minus 65% of excess income - £82.56
    Equals - £17.44 Housing Benefit

And if they got DLA Care then that would only increase by £25.90 to £43.34 p/w.

I know wine helps in the very short term when you're not feeling good, but maybe start with the chocolate and see if you still need a drink in half an hour? Don't want you to feel worse later.
    Gone ... or have I?

I have asked if you have ever worked - not to call you a lazy git but to see if that is the reason you can't claim sod all

Could you tell us the circumstances then OP?

What are the medical problems? Why can't you work?

It was possibly because you didn't explain why you weren't working that melbi got a bit upset.

Melbi-I hope you're feeling a bit better now. Hot bubbly bath, candles..dmg has suggested everything else I would have went for..especially the chocolate ;)

OP-Maybe I missed something but do you have children? If you don't then I don't think you can get help benefitwise.
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them :)

I shouldnt have to explain my personal circumstances in detail, but is appears that some on this forum think im a lazy git who cant be arsed working!!

My wife Works, that is our only income so out of her £18,000 yearly wage we have to pay all household bills

I can not work full time due to various medical condtions, which include back problems, (I sometimes even have to kneel on the floor at the bathroom sinkto wash ), bending is my issue
I also suffer from Chronic Cluster Migraines which occur frequently and with no warning and affect me for up to 3 days at a time and I am occasionally bed bound with them, and the pain is extremly intense I take strong medication from my doctor for these
I also have dylsexia and Dyspraxia whic causes communication problems
I am seeking and wanting part time work but some of these conditions above if not all prevent me from the majority or roles.
Even if I try and look for work and secure employment my attendance could be a massive issue due to the above mentioned conditions

I havent worked for a while so my NI contributions arent up to date so doubt can claim on that basis, does this mean I am entitled to income based /means tested even though my wife has a full time job and earns £18,000 p.a

I want to go back to work as this dayt and age extra income helps. ESA looks the right step if someone could explain it, I have read the information, but if anyone has been through it I would be grateful of your input, I suppose I am frightened of which way to turn, I feel why can I not contribute to the household income.

also my wife has told me to write this and she is correct, I am a good house husband, I do all the house work(slowly as I struggle - in the job world you dont get the luxury of time) cooking, washing etc the only thing I dont do is the Ironing
