I expect an onslaught but here goes

My other half has been sent to prison - what for is irrelevant - but we hope he will be given a suspended sentence. That aside, he has had an EE contract for about 6 months which, for now, I can still afford to pay for him but if the phone isnt needed then I need to try and cancel it or I have to deal with the letters that come threatening the usual and I've enough to deal with

Contract is in his name only but if the worst was to happen is there any get out clause for this situation?

    Thanks in advance

There is no get out clause (short of death or bankruptcy).

Can you not find anyone to transfer the contract over to? If it's an expensive handset, sell it and use that to pay for the next 6 months (or however much it will pay) and your partner can just buy a cheap phone to use with the contract sim when he is again free.

To sell the contract/phone though you need the phone and the phone is tied up in his property in the prison.
I went into EE to pay it, they wouldn't let me - I mean, when does a random stranger go in and offer to pay a bill? It's not like I wanted his details, I've already got them, passwords the lot - except the account number
its just a complete mess

    This is very odd.
Do you not have a paper bill to pay by a bank transfer?

Sorry its taken so long to reply - no, I dont/didn't and have/had no access to them. The only address he hadn't changed when he moved back home was his EE account

However, good news! I used the Freephone number for sales and because I am a password holder they allowed me to pay his bill AND set up a DD from my bank account
I didn't need to tell them why he just couldn't pay it himself, they guessed - why this sales rep could help when no one in store was able to even make a suggestion is beyond me but it's done now - thank goodness for some sense in the end

He is sentenced Friday (11th Sept) - he has an excellent probation report. Fingers crossed he receives a suspended
