This is true, there is a certain time after which they have to give you a replacement......
Don't they also have to give you a brand new one if it breaks down a certain number of times?!?! I know with Nokia phones (ok not quite the same but still....) if you send the phone back three times for the same fault to be repaired then they replace it with a new (possibly refurb) handset!

I too will not shop at Curry"s. My wife and I purchased a Washing Machine some 10 years ago with a £100 knocked off, and then as extended warranties had just been introduced I was subjected to 30 minutes being rudely spoken to by the salesman because I didnt want the extra warranty! I ended up having a row with him!
Needless to say ive bought nothing from Currys since, and that particular branch has closed down!0 -

They have upto 6 weeks to repair, after that they have to replace or issue vouchers.
The "instant replacement" or products depends on the type of product, low value items such as disk drives, keyboards etc would be dont instantly, I remember at PCW that printers and monitors were always replaced by the manufacture the next day. Its such an odd thing, but some things the manufacture told the retailer that they would deal with the faulty products and not the retailers, its so that the retailer would have sellable stock all the time, and would not be using up good stock for returned good by the customer0 -
Currys are bad for sorting out problems - not going into it too much, had a tumble dryer that condensed, bottle wouldnt fill after 4 months or so had cover for it so claimed, sent loads of engineers out with no luck of fixing it - spoke to loads of customer services (have 3 sons,1 is disabled, so loads of washing & drying in wintertime)- finally got through to a manager after not having dryer for more than 8 weeks and told them I was going to watchdog and trading standards, manager got me a replacement voucher sent out straight away and refunded some of the policy in the voucher as well - needless to say currys are poor with everything in my case and I will never ever go there again and I have also discouraged family & friends to spend with them.Comp wins 2013:160 finish quantum tabs, 2xtickets private screening of prisoners(Jake n Hugh 2)

Dixons (&co) can't do enough for you until they get your money then they can't do anything for you.I think outside the box - I can also think round corners.0

I've bought a fair number of things from Dixons\Currys over the years, over the past six months I've placed about ten orders for various kitchen appliances, four tvs for relatives/parents and myself. I don't think I can name one which was completely trouble free.
One faulty tv being the main one in relation to what's been talked about. This one was a 24" CRT for my 92yr old great aunt, delivery date was mixed up, then didn't turn up. When it did arrive I took it to her house, built up the stand and plugged it in all ready to show her how much better this one was than her last one. It all lit up fine and the picture was great, then it clicked what was missing, there was no sound!
Contacted Dixons about this who after about four different people told me, "oh this is a Philips TV, we don't deal with them you need to contact Philips". Baring in mind this was within a week of delivery, and was only just set up the day I phoned them. I said I didn't think she understood what I was asking, but she was insistant that I had to contact Philips and gave me the number.
Gave Philips a call, which turned out to be their main reception at some placed totally unrelated to TVs. They gave me another number for Philips TV helpline who confirmed exactly what I'd thought, that the TV was indeed faulty. I said so how can we sort this, chap tells me, "you'll need to contact Dixons, as they need to deal with Philips Trade regarding this".
Back to square one, Dixons again told me the same as before, to which I insisted I could not do this. Eventually they said a Mastercare 'engineer' would need to come and see the TV. Again I said, Philips have, by your request, confirmed this TV is faulty. I was told if I want this sorted I'll need to be at home and have this guy come and check it. Most frustrated by this point I agreed. Mastercare man came, took one look and said, it's faulty!
I'd then need to be in another day to have it collected, and yet another day to take delivery of the replacement. This wasn't an option for me, so eventually they agreed to take it as a return at the local store. I take it to the store, to find out they have none and would need to go to the warehouse 25miles away to collect one.
The warehouse is most unfriendly, you are greeted at the door by an intercom which asks for an order number and some other details. You are then told to return to your car and someone will be available in about 15-20 minutes! On top of this we were pretty much asked to keep away from the door for security reasons by a rather rude man. Weather wasn't greatest, and couldn't get parked in the carpark so if we had returned to the car they wouldn't have found us.
Eventually got home, and thankfully this TV worked. The thrill of a new TV had worn off by this time for my aunt and she just wanted it over with.
Other orders include one for a microwave, dishwasher and set of speakers. Charged for all three and only sent the microwave. Was told lots of items weren't delivered that day and should still come. Week later I'm told it was never sent!
Reconditioned MP3 player was faulty on arrival, which may have just been bad luck.
At various times I'm told my Credit Card hasn't been accepted, but they can't tell me why all I can do is reorder which means you miss your original delivery slot. This is usually after about three or four days after you place the order.
I guess you'd wonder why I still used them after this. Some of the kitchen appliances were only stocked by Dixons/Currys and I'd already bought one part of the cooker, so needed the matching hood, hob etc.. I all to often put mix ups down to just simple mistakes and am willing to give them another go.
This happens 90% of the time with Dixons Group though unfortunately.0 -
I would totally agree with you on this. These cowboys basically have robbed me!
After Buying a samsung Lcd 32" for just under £900,within the first six months I had it repaired three times and a further repair required!
It wasnt fit even for Ebay!!!
Repairs Carried Out -
1. A New lcd screen was required as the screen just died.
2. The Main pcb board died three weeks Later.
3. The stand had to be replaced as this was Damaged
4. Dixons did not care about any of the above. I have now sent the item back to Samsung as there is another fault.Which they have agreed to replace for a new t.v.Dixons not interested.
5.I have been shot by Dixons but only wounded as I will be back making a blog about my experience and proving everthing with receipts and the expense that it has cost me.
6.Just waiting at Present for Samsung to send my new tv.So I can also prove that samsung agreed that a new t.v was required.
7.Stay away from Dixons as there Customer care Support are all Foot soldiers!!0 -
I had a problem with a pc I brought from them. It took over 3 months for them to test it then refund my money.I've bought a fair number of things from Dixons\Currys over the years, over the past six months I've placed about ten orders for various kitchen appliances, four tvs for relatives/parents and myself. I don't think I can name one which was completely trouble free.
Just a bit curious to find out why you continued shopping with them if you've had nothing but problems with them0 -
Just to post on from this about the hoover.... Most of the new hoovers have cut out system. Mine has and I got it exchanged for it to happen again and then I read the instructions. If there is something stuck in the filter (like a peice of tissue or paper) or it gets too warm it custs out. Fairly frustrating but I hoover 2 or 3 times a day and even them it gets clogged pretty easy if I hoover things like the kids craft stuff or bits of peper - or if I can cleaning the cats beds. Just a thought really. If you are doing a lot of hoovering then it'll cut out to save it from overheating and then when it has coooled you can turn it on again.
In regard to the refunds/exchanges I think that after a certain amount of time you go back to the manufacturer, this is why you fill out the warranty card, and they will repair it for you free of charge. Even Kenwood replaced our Frothy drinks maker after 6 months when it started to leak so start with them.
At the end of the day, it is the products that are faulty so the company making them should fix them for you not the person selling them - just my opinion. I ahve always gone to the manufactuer is there is a problem unless it is an 'own brand'.
Hope this helps.0
