I have to say that when my DVD recorder went wrong the manager at Currys instantly offered a replacement. They had none left and it was a discontinued line. I ended up with the next model up for the same price as I had already paid as a replacement although I was also offered a refund.

That said, after all the horror stories on here I will never buy anything from that group again.

    Hiya angieb

Don't worry, I know that they're not all like that. I worked for PC World myself and met my lovely boyfriend who I'm still with there.
In my opinion the problem stems from abysmal management - where pressure is constantly put on the staff to sell crappy 'extended warranties' and to sell sell sell - and not give two hoots once the customer has walked out of the store.

There are lots of incidents I can think of, of brilliant customer service such as the one you mentioned, but no-one ever gets to know about them AS THE MANAGEMENT HATE THIS SORE OF THING - if it's taking up good time instead of raking in money on overpriced rubbish it's not worth it.

There are lots of lovely people who work for these companies but their lives are made very difficult by managers above them preventing them from providing any standard of customer service.

They ABSOLUTELY have to take stuff back before the 28 day cut off if it's faulty, but after that they seem to be able to just pap customers off to the manufacturers.

I don't know the legalities of this but it certainly happened a lot when I worked for them. (Luckily I was a lowly cashier so was able to provide impeccable customer service all the time :D )

They are one of the most horrible companies I have ever encountered, and had I been older and wiser when I worked there I certainly wouldn't have let them walk all over me the way that they did.

I once visited some of the stores looking for cheap and cheerful home "lo fi" units and found the staff had an amazing knowledge of HP schemes, but no knowledge whatsoever about their products.

A business model aimed at shifting stock and nothing else.

If you want a laugh, after going to the local trading standards, pitch up outside the store on a weekend with a placard, the faulty cleaner and start telling people about the appalling service in the shop.

I went to PC world to buy a new keyboard last week, because they are cheap for some things. I thought that the store was a cathedral to consumer tat.

Ok who's going to do the 'joystick' and the 'floppy' gags?

I have to agree Currys management are useless.
    :)
  • I ceased shopping at Currys years ago for all the same reasons stated in this forum, they seemed to beleive they were Invincible within the Marketplace by imposing their own Draconian rules in respect of refunds/ replacements, the only exceptions appeard to be if you agreed to purchase a much more expensive replacement.

I have news for you Currys/Dixons welcome to the real world, welcome to competition, welcome to the Intenet, welcome to Price Checkers/comparison sites, and above all welcome to MONEY SAVING EXPERT.COM

Customers now buy with their Mouse!

It seems that the majority of people agree with my initial post concerning the dismal customer service and after sales at Currys & as I said earlier the point is that the Currys store should take the goods from you & sort the problem as the seller, NOT to pass you off with a helpline number or off to the manufacturer.

Anyway, for the few of you that didnt agree then please take 30 seconds of your time and do a simple google search typing in 'currys complaints'.

You will find page after page, literally hundreds of complaints regarding currys (689 if the first item you will see is correct)

Then, do a search on 'Asda complaints' and you will find hardly anything.

That says it all really doesnt it!

p.s Asda is used as an example. I have no association with Asda apart from the fact that I shop there.
