Would you do that if it had been a car? no of course not!

I wouldn't use the horn to warn someone of a car either.
    Why.
1/ A car is far bigger than a cycle, hence there is a much better probability that it would have been seen.
2/ if a car is hit by another car coming around a roundabout, the chances of the driver being seriously injured are far less than if it was a cyclist being hit.

Let cyclists kill themselves, just don't get involved.
Notice how many posters jumped to the defence of a specific stupid cyclist, with counter claims against all motorists?
You can draw your own conclusions.

No not all cyclists are thick, they are a pain...

How can you say that all cyclists are "a pain"?

Anyway, my experience roughly matches yours - I have come across a greater proportion of bad drivers than bad cyclists, but there certainly doesn't appear to be a simple correlation between the form of transport someone uses and their ability to use the transport safely/responsibly.
    Definitely thick...

If you fail to realise that a single observation neither infers nor implies a universal rule... then life must be quite a challenge for you. Yep - none. Why don't you try reading the thread again?

It's only the anticipation and reaction of motorists that save a lot of cyclists from an early grave. Now motorcyclists, I have a lot of respect for them, they know the vulnerability of their choice of transport and ride with that in mind and anticipate danger situations .

And I too wonder why you sounded your horn....the rules of the road are that the horn is to be used to warn others of your presence....so when the cyclist entered the roundabout you decided to warn her that you were behind and distract her from the road ahead?

    Pointless post in my opinion.

I did not hoot to warn the cyclist , I hooted to warn the other driver that in about 1 sec time he would have a cyclist under his front wheels. He may already have appreciated the hazard but in such a situation you can't wait to see if he had or not. It was obvious the way she rode into the junction she had no intention of halting at the stop line.

and many more are saved by predicting/avoiding the ludicrous maneuvers performed by some drivers

I was following a road cyclist, female, recreational sports not commuter and as we were coming up to a mini roundabout stayed behind, she was moving quite fast ! At the roundabout a car with priority was coming from the right. Needless to say the cyclist just rode straight onto the roundabout. I hit the horn, the car hit his brakes as the cyclist took a short cut over the centre of the MR. As she went she looked over her shoulder as if to say "what are you hooting me for ?"

It normally boils down to thick drivers who are not paying attention.

Either way - you should not have sounded your horn.

You were not involved in the potential accident and you sounding your horn would have done nothing to aid either the other driver or the cyclist.
All you succeeded in doing is distracting both drivers as they negotiated a roundabout.

Do you sound your horn at every potential incident you see???
why did you sound it at this one?
what was special about this incident that you felt alerting both the cyclist and driver to your presence would help them avoid each other?

And you think cyclists are thick???

Horns should be banned........... What value do they add apart from upsetting people?
