I was a Company Director (non shareholder/owner) with an absolutely abysmal credit file and I had 2 company credit cards.

Natwest was just a signature, and I think I had to give them my home address.

Amex was a bit more complicated, they did want to know if I had been made bankrupt.

When I got promoted and had to have the cards for entertaining etc, what I did was talk to my HR dept, told them I was in the process of looking at a mortgage and didnt want my credit file being jeopordised by too many checks etc. I know from checking the file there was no checks made, but I cant say for sure thats the case for everyone.

If I had discovered MSE this time last year I may not be going down the road to BR

  • If your a limited company your compnay will be registered with companies house and you should have a accountant , check out the compnay status on companies house shows up to date records etc, very easy to be a LTD and still be tax avoidance etc. - not saying you are etc.

However if you are in any way implicated with company finance or are the company director you can be liable for the failing or liquidation of such - so id check as no way if all goes balls up do you want a 2nd BR.

Lastly if all is ok your company is credit scored and you are a named person for the card , you could in fact call yourself john doe as nothing should be scored about you personally.

your company accountant should answer all questions. in cofidence as well.

HolidayMad - the OP is an employee (Director) of a company where they are not the owner, company responsibilities are not the OPs in this case, they have just been asked to have a company credit card.

Please read a few posts back where the OP states the 3 forms they have been given and relevant responses have been posted.

Sorry i thought he said he was a company secretary/director.

I was a Limited company and company director and also company secretary, i thought the OP said he was a company secretary .

The reason i was banging on about LTD status is that many people call themselves directors when the company is in fact a sole trader an i was saying check your company status with companies house to be sure.
My old landscape gardner called himself a director but was a sole trader.

An application for a Ltd company credit card would not do credit checks against the person but the company

As a limited company i received credit for my business account and a card was issued in my name, however it was my company that was scored and checked and liable for the debt and not me personally.

If he is being asked to do one on his merits it would suggest they are sole traders and not ltd status.

The point i was making about being a company secretary for a LTD company is you take the most responsibility if the company goes bust and can have massive implications on you personally where as a director you dont.

The reason people set themselves up as a ltd company when they are small opposed to trading as a sole trader, is that through dividend payments you can make more money through off setting against expenses.
Having a credit card in your name for a Ltd company makes no sence, only to have it paid off against the books.

Hi thanks all for your replies.
Sorry for the slow reply my pc had crashed.
I have fobbed my boss off with excuses so far about the paperwork saying that im decorating and havnt had the time.
I hate lieing to him but i really dont want to reveal my private business with him.
One of the questions in the application is about my accomodation.
When my boss asked me if i had a mortgage i said no i dont have one.
He assumed my house was paid for but truthfully i rent.
I know i cant lie on the form about that it also says" are you aware of any adverse bureau data,e.g ccjs registered against any of the authorised signatories on the account?"
does that mean me or the other directors?
    many thanks again

The question about 'adverse bureau data' against signatories must include you.

The only honest answer is: "Me - a discharged bankrupt."

Can you fill the form in honestly and return it direct to the bank, without your boss seeing it?

There is no guarantee the bank will reject you.

Lenders are much more interested in recent history, and they will have other company security for the debts on this card account.

I know i said i was gonna come clean but sadly i bottled it. :o
Next week it will be 5 years since i was made Bankrupt so all i needed was another year to be clean.
Maybe i should start cleaning up my credit score as i didnt bother before this and kinda enjoyed only having a debit card and a prepay credit card.
I did go for the cashplus "loan" account and completed that year sucessfully as a helper.
hopefully i can keep fobbing him off for another year :o

I don't blame you if it's that important to you that your boss doesn't find out.

Try not to stress about it too much, only another year.

Definitely take the time to clean up your file though, so you know everything will drop off at the 6 year mark.

well it just gets worse :(
My boss has now asked me to make sure i bring the papers in as he is setting up a meeting for us both at the bank on Friday :(
This has all come one year too soon.
Is it worth cleaning my record up and trying to get some easy credit (whatever that may be)?
Looks like im going to have to try and fob him off with something for Friday but im running out of excuses as i definatly dont want to lie on the paperwork and get prosecuted for fraud :(
