  • I have been in the process of doing these for so long. Got on really well with my family tree and want to make sure all the info I have looks as nice as possible.

Anyway I do have a book that should help. Brilliant titale, questions, phrases, etc

'A father's/mother's gift. Your Life in Your Words - A lasting gift for your children'

It was written by a guy who met his wife when she had an 8 year old daughter who he ended up adopting but knew there would always be a big gap in her life when she didn't know him. He had lost his own father so wanted to make sure he had everything he wanted to tell her written down.

Sections include, all the usual plus -

Tell me five important lessons you have learned in your life up til now.
What, in your opinion, are the qualities that make someone a good friend
What is your most treasured possession and where did it come from
Give me 6 pieces of advice to help me be honest and successful in my life
How would you like to be remembered when you are gone
Share a memory of how you proposed to mum. What do you love about her now?

There are many more questions interspersed with quotes and song lyrics, spaces for writing and photos.

It was sold in aid of Dreams Come True for £4.99, but there is no isbn number so I don't know how you would get hold of it, but making your own with the question you want to know could make it more special anyway

    hope this helps

Wonderful title, thank you very much. After starting this thread life has been so hectic that we haven't managed to make these after all! I think I am going to make a rough copy for each set of parents with the promise that I will type them up and illustrate them with photos, etc., after Christmas! You have all given so many wonderful questions and ideas, I feel really guilty now ... but I suppose that's what life with 2 under 5s is all about!!!

  • I saw on here a while before xmas that people where making books of memories to give to grandparents to fill out and hand back to your children. I searched the thread but found nothing
    I was just wondering

    A. what kind of book do you use? photo album?

    B. what kind of questions do you ask?

I want to make them for 2 sets of grandparents for this xmas and want to get an early start on them as i can imagine they will take a lot of work. I was just struggling to get started and wondered if anyone here had some ideas?

Hiya; I started that thread but then never got round to making the books so I am making an early start this year for next Xmas too!

I guess you could use whichever kind of book you want to; I have bought ring-bound lined books which make it easier for people to write in, and I am going to write a question on each page.

I don't know how to post a link; but this is the page of the original thread; hope it works!

Sounds like a lovely idea for the older generation to fill out for our benefit. I could also keep my family tree with it.
