  • I think this is a delightful idea :), I have boxes/books for my children but have never thought about doing the same for older relatives. I wish I'd done this when my mother, mother-in-law and father-in-law were still alive. :(

I think I'll start on memory books from my father, husband and myself (no I'm not that old 42, but I'll forget this idea if I don't do it now)

I have a really strong box that they'll all be kept in nicely until the time the children are older :) uummmm I think I need to duplicate them so the children have one each I think lol

    Great idea!!!!!

    Depending on their ages :

    What is your earliest memory?
What was your favourite childhood outfit?
What were your childhood brithdays like?
Where were you when/how do you remember hearing ; WW2 had broken out/John Lennon died/Elvis died/the twin towers had fallen?
What was your first home like? what "appliances" did you have? How did you cope without a washing machine/dishwasher/tv/running water/inside toilet/ microwave/computer?
Where was your first/favourite hooliday? what did you do on it?
What are your all time favoutie tv programes past & present?
What(if any) is your biggest regret? What would you change about your life/the world today?
Who do you admire & why?
    What are your favourite foods/recipies?

    HTH;)

Im doing one of these for my husband, Ive spent many nights round his parents without him knowing lol!!

Mine is more like a this is your life kind of book, starting with his baby pictures, toddler, teenage milestones, his first car pictures and so on.

Ive even managed to get photos of him working at tesco and cut out the tesco logo's.

I went to a craft shop and got some poetic sayings to put round the photos and many other bits to make it look pretty.

Forgot to mention that when he was a baby his parents entered him into a gorgeous baby comp in london. I managed to get hold of the newspaper clipping of him in the paper and the actual photo of him. Ive done a big page on that which will make him cringe lol.

Good luck with it, its very time consuming but will be really worth it.
  • I'd love to see some pictures of all these books/folders when they are done or even as they are being done.....
    Wonderful idea.........

I've gone for books but I can see that folders would be a good idea, too, as you can add bits and pieces at a later date - nice idea!

As you've already bought books, perhaps you could cut a plastic wallet down to size and stick it in the back cover. Then if there are any photos, certificates, etc that they want to add then they can just be slotted in the pocket.

I've started my children off by getting them a book each with black paper in it. I've got them a silver and gold pen and my son is doing one for grandpa and my daughter her grandma. They're writing the questions out on each page and then we'll give the pen with the gift so they can hand write all the answers.

    Great idea Morganb, thankyou!

Today I stumbled across some lovely note books in paperchase, they have a selection of different covers & inside half the pages are lined & half blank so perfect for a mixture of questions & photos etc. Best of all they were only £2.25 each! I have bought 4, one for each set of grandparents & one for hubby & I to write for our son. I am going to give them to grandparents as gifts from our son with a letter explaining & asking them to give them back at some stage in the future.

Anyone else thought of any more questions?
