Have you actually spoken to your insurance company? I would ring them up, explain the whole story, and tell them YC have advised you to call your insurers and ask to speak to their insurers.
If their insurers will pay out, then it shouldn't affect your home insurance and your excess as your insurance co will be able to claim the whole lot back from YC. Please speak to them before you do anything else.

There's a suggestion!..I wish the OP was listening mode!
  • Let me ask you a couple of questions please. When you bought the tart warmer, it was not electric, correct? Ok, now to melt you used a Tea light size candle in the bottom to melt it,correct? If you used a votive size candle to melt the tart, that size candle is too tall and will cause too much heat and could result in what happened. OK now if you used a Tea light size candle to warm it, was it White AND Unscented??? This is the most important fact when using unelectric, the warmer candle MUST be white and unscented Because scents and colored candles burn at different temperatures and are NOT to be used with warmers of any type. You should have been informed on proper usage. Yankee Candle Company has an unconditional guarantee and stands behind ALL of there products no matter where you purchase them. If the outlet store you purchased the warmer at did not inform you of the correct way to use the product then it is them and NOT Yankee Candle Company that you need to be complaning to. Yankee Candle Company has been in business for 42 years and as I said, stands behind every product that manufactures. Was the burnner a Yankee Candle product and the tarts? Or just the tarts? I hope this might help you figure out where to go from here.

I've been trying to burn one of their tarts tonight but it keeps starting to bubble and pop so i blow it out straight away. this has happened a few times in the past and im not sure if its because when i clean the glass i clean it with washing up liquid and water? i don't know if theres maybe still some on of the washing up liquid on the glass or something thats making it do this? only thing i can think off.

i'm quoting my own quote here but i think i was right about washing the glass with washing up liquid, even though it was rinsed and dried it still did this. i don't wash it with washing liquid anymore and just wipe it clean. never had an incident of it popping and bubbling since.

Although I am not normally a fan of forum users "spamming" their blogs, it's interesting that Carolyn @ Yankee Candle appeared to have been straight in there to comment.

OP; how did you get on?
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

^^This was my inital thought as well. If your insurers were to contact theirs then they would be reimbursed and you shouldn't have to pay excess. It doesn't sound like it was explained very well in their follow up comments though.

How are you getting on now, any further forward? You don't still have wax on your walls all this time later I hope

Ps - Just out of interest, did they post back your burner with the first reply?
