High Postage

I bough something on ebay and it had postage as £7 for Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded. And today I got it and the postage costed him £1.95 and then of course you have the paper and the tape so say £1 onto of this, how can a seller charge £4 more then it atually costed. It was a datacard and it was just the DVD case and then paper wraped around it. For the cost of it do you think the seller should have send the item in a jeffy bag.

What do you all think?
Thanks in advance.

they may not know how much the postage would be unless they sell loads of the same thing
i always guestimate my postage costs because they arent wrapped until the night before and i have no idea about weight, sometimes im under sometimes im over
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D
  • Unfortunately you agreed to his costs by buying it so you can't really complain . If the cost was too high in your opinion you should have e-mailed him asking him to justify it or not bid at all .
  • I have no problem if the item was send in a jiffy bag but just wraping paper for the cost of it. And reehsetin he does sell alot of the same items.

The poster can charge what they like for postage. Fair price or not.

Yes it was steep, but if the postage cost was in the ad then you need to take it into consideration since you agree to pay like the previous poster said.

Personally I think some sellers make a bit extra on their items through postage costs because some people seem to exclude this cost when considering the price to bid to... The bottom line is what is the TOTAL COST you pay for getting the item you bid on to you, not just the current bid price.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.
  • But if you were going to send a item at cost at least you would send it in a jeffy bag not just paper, I have bough simler items in the past and got it in a jeffy bag. And yes I know about the bid + postage equals total price/cost.

so you consider £4 a fair price for a jiffy bag then ????? at then end of the day - you knew the postage price - you were happy to pay it - the factthat it cost him less is really not the point - perhaps he lives in the sticks and has an old banger that guzzles petrol and th enearest post office is 15 miles away:rolleyes:
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • Maybe and if he used a jiffy bag I would be happy because I dont really care if he is making more money, I just wanted the item that send to me safely. I paid £3.75 on something yesterday and it was 1st Class Record and it came today in a jiffy bag.

I always guesstimate my postage, usually slightly on the higher side, just in case. If it turns out to be cheaper than what I'd expected, then lucky me - I slip a quid or two inside the package to cover that, along with a note saying so. If it comes to slightly more than I expect, that's my fault and I shouldn't expect the buyer to pay extra just because I'm a daftie who can't guesstimate postage.

But £7 for a DVD's postage sounds absurd. Sounds like someone's trying to bump up their profits through postage costs. In future remember to bear in mind postage costs before buying from what appears to be the cheapest place.

If the postage costs were listed in the auction, then there is no point complaining now...
