Well, at last, got around to making some. The BH said they were "Nice", I thought were "Quite nice", my youngest son won't eat them as he is a "Savoury person". So, result is they are currently in an airtight awaiting BH's friends verdicts. Sorry but I am somewhat underwhelmed after the hype from previous posts.
Might try the boozy reipe though, sounds more my style.

I found this post and it looked so good, I wanted to put it in the weekly e-mail. As it was in the middle of a thread I've cut and pasted it into its own one. Yet let me say it belongs to jaxxy00 and all the credit is hers (his?).

    How to make Weetabix Brownies

Im not sure how they are normally made but my recipe comes from a lady who was doing the refreshments at a community centre jumble sale me and my sister went to one year. We had a cuppa and one of the brownies and they were really yummy so we asked were they got them from and the lady said shed made them and gave us the recipe. I wrote it on a scrappy bit of paper that i still have and use now.

    In a bowl put
    4 crushed weetabix
    4oz caster sugar
    4oz self raising flour
    2 tbsp cocoa powder
pkt chocolate drops (i use a 25p 100g tescos own milk chocolate chopped up)

    mix this altogether

then take 4oz of melted marg and stir this into the mixture along with an egg

mix well and put in a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes at electric 180.

I put this mix into a square tin which measures 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. I suppose you could use anything a similar size it would just turn out a bit more or less deeper. I also line the tray with greaseproof paper to save any sticking. Once out the oven let it stand for about 5 minutes then turn out the tray and cut into squares.

Enjoy!!! if you get chance before everyone else takes them.

You are all such a bad influence! Just because I saw this recipe, I HAD to make them.......

...... then someone else suggested heating them in the microwave and eating with ice cream, so I HAD to do that too ......

......and now I've eaten the whole batch.......

    .......ON MY OWN!!!!

And they're so easy to make i will no doubt do it all over again tomorrow! Ha! :o

I made these today and had to guess the marg as I had no scales. My mixture too seemed a bit dry so I added a little oil as I was making the brownie biscuits at the same time. Both turned out lush, mmmmm!!

I'll add this one into the original thread... maybe it'll help someone avoid problems.

I finally got around to making these this morning, are they supposed to be really crumbly? They are OK, but like another poster, I am somewhat underwhelmed & suspect it is due to my cooking skills rather than the recipe?! I made a double batch as I only have a BIG brownie tin, they came out very lumpy on the top & very crumbly when I cut them?

No they are not supposed to be really crumbly but dont worry, i put the recipe on here to start with and mine has been like that before :o

If i use my original tin then they are fine, its 8 1/2" x 9" (how i like them kind of dense, together, stodgy, yummy, probably not best way to desribe but i think you know what i mean). If i use another tin that i got then they have been dry and not that nice. They have been ok but not very moreish.

You will know when you have got them right because the plate will clear before your eyes and your waistline will expand at a speed of knots

So please dont be put off if your first batch is not what you imagined. I think another thing which is crucial is timing and make sure the oven is preheated.

    Have fun.:D
  • Doh!! Read the first post and thought I would try making these for DS and DD. I kept the recipe up on screen while I ran back and forth between kitchen and pc to make the recipe. After I had put them in the oven I read the rest of the thread. Only then did I realise that I hadn't put an egg in at all! I thought the mixture looked dry and added some milk to moisten it a bit but never thought to check the recipe again.

Still, although a little crumbly they look ok and taste ok too. Will definitely try the recipe again and make the suggested changes. Wonder how long it will take this batch to disappear though.

Dont know how much difference it would make but i always use large eggs so if you only use a small or medium then that might make a difference to the moistness.

I made a batch recently which were my best ever, in my opinion, and yet when hubby tried them he went ummmm well these are not as good as usual. You cant please them all.
