o2 cancelling PUFL contract

How did you find out about this? I have a pufl, haven't used it for years but that's not the point. I haven't had a letter and don't know where sim card is for pufl and I'm sure my emails have changed since I took it out. I haven't found it very useful recently I seemed to be charge for any call I made but thought I would put it away for emergencies. I remember when we bought it I was told that it was for life and I could give it to my children who were with me at the time and it would be for the length of their lives too.0

You need to get switched on to Network lingo.
Now you and I know that "for life" in the real world means just that. Equally, we know that "unlimited" means no limit.
However, Networks seem to have been given carte blanche to interpret words as they like, with the blessing of the regulator, so "unlimited" in network speak means "with whatever limit we like to impose and it will be different from me to my competitor"
Now "for life" clearly means for as long as the person who drew up your contract lived, and, regrettably, he has just died.
Simple!

Hi Snapper999. I was in the same position; alll OK until 2008, then more and more trouble getting O2 to reinstate PUFFL tariff when they buimped me off it every year until this year. Then I went to Radio 4's You and Yours - catch it on iplayer 5 May 2011 - about 12 minutes or so into programme. Despite the fact that I had been through complaints review service and received Deadlock letter Radio 4 read out an e-mail from O2 stating it had make a mistake in my case (that last bit might be significant) and was reinstating my original contract with immediate effect. They also apologised for inconvenience etc.etc. Despite that, today had text saying my bill this month £10;21 which would be collected...... etc. I suppose I must give them a few days to sort this out. Oh, and they also said they had received very few complaints of this nature - so all you people out there get complaining AND send an e-mail to You and Yours as well (via their website). Perhaps we should all get together and get some proper regulation in the industry.0

O2 admitted it was wrong....
I thought I had posted a reply yesterday, but I obviously did something wrong as I can't find it now.
Anyway, I was in the same boat as so many others. Purchased a PUFFL in 2002, all OK until 2008 when renewing on same basis became difficult; increasingly so in 2009, 10 and in 2011 refused to play ball altogether and migrated me to £10.21 /m contract. Declined offer of goodwill gesture (year's contract fees) and got deadlock letter from Complaints Review Service. Then I went to THE MEDIA. Got in touch with Radio 4's "You and Yours" which did a feature on 5th May (about 15 mins or so into programme for those who want to catch it). Upshot was Y & Y read out a statement from O2 in which it said it had "made a mistake in my case and that it was reinstating my original contract with immediate effect". O2 also apologised for inconvenience etc.et.
Having said all that, I still got a text yesterday saying my bill this month is £10.21 which would be collected on ...... I'll give it a couple of days more before I get in touch with You and Yours again!
But I do urge all those people still trying to stay on their puffl contracts to e-mail You and Yours via the bbc/radio4 website. You can use the form on the website to do this. O2 told the BBC that it had received "very few" complaints of this nature. Let's see if that is true. And let's see if we can get some proper regulation in this industry.0 -
Whoops - guess I've got a lot to learn about this! Now I find my last posting! But I suppose it's better to say something twice than not at all. Sorry folks.0

Hi
I have 2 of these contracts, still have the old 3310 to go with them LOL.
I lost one of them recently and decided to telephone 02 to see if I could have it replaced and was told I could either go and collect one in local 02 store and have it activated or they would send me one.
I collected it locally but haven't used it yet, so following this thread I have put it on charge to see what happens.
Haven't had a bill for my other one, one on 200 mins off peak and the other on 50 mins anytime.
No problems here.
When it was charged I couldn't make any calls so I contacted 02 online and was connected to Barry who was most helpful. Didn't know what the problem was but suggested I put my simcard into another mob, which I did and hey presto. I asked him what he did and he said nothing, sometimes you have to remove it and try it again. He then told me there was £1.66 charged to my bill when I asked how as I hadn't used the phone for a long while he said it was for texts on 25 April when it was only activated on 26 but to cut a long story short he credited £3 to my account and asked if there was anything else he could help me with.
Phone working fine now so I will see if there are any further charges next month.
Good luck to everyone with this contract.
I have got online access and get a text to tell me how much my bill is for the month, so will let you know how I get on.0 -

Just to point out that I very much doubt you are on a "Pay Up Front For Life" contract. If you were then you would not be "renewing" it . What I suspect you are on is a "Line Advance" tarrif were you still have to pay yearly .0 -
Well, I used the term "renew" loosely. From 2002 until 2007 I didn't have to do a thing - as I said in the interview - just paid for any calls to mobiles or texts which weren't "free". It was only when Telephonica took over Cellnet/O2 that they tried bumping me onto a different tariff that I had to point out that I had been promised "no more contract fees - ever". In fact it was O2 itself who told me I had a PUFFL contract - hadn't heard the term before 2008 although I had heard "free for life" as this was the contract I purchased!
I think all this just illustrates the plethora of different packages which have been available over the years and peoples' different understanding of the terminology employed. We really do need more transparency and openness in the industry.
PS Still haven't had personal confirmation of the on-air apology from O2. Will let you know when/if it arrives.0 -
Out of curiosity ga, have you done any handset upgrades since 2002? (there have been two or three free handset upgrade 'loopholes' on PUFFL over the years).
[3 PUFFL accounts in the Scrounger houshold with no problems so far ]

@ g.a.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I have 2 PUFFL contracts & have never had any contact with Cellnet/O2/ whoever owns them now which was why I questioned it when you said "renew" ,.
Sorry
