What would you do with £17 Million?

I would pay off my car and any family cards etc and then be out of this country like a shot. May pop back from time to time to remind myself of how bad it is and to pick up those little things you can't get anywhere else.
Would pretty much travel and enjoy life as I would have the means with which to do it rather than spending day in day out do the same thing with a few glimmers of hope every year!
Not sure why people would be happy to remain here, perhaps spend a few £k on a new car and carry on doing what they normally do. It's a life changing amount and remaining at home with possibly an extra 2 week Caribbean holiday in not exactly life changing!
The interest alone on that amount would let you comfortably travel and buy things you may want.
And I certainly wouldn't want publicity like the couple who recently won £7m+ a mile up the road from me.......not that I've heard anything about them since in the local paper.0 -

Not everyone wants to change their life, just cos it's a life changing amount !! I am happy with my lot- retired from BA so still get free first class tickets to travel whenever we like, so no biggy for me..Debt-free...and staying that way...0 -
I would give a million to my best friend.
A million to my niece and family
I would help a few friends who need it.
I would buy myself and daughter a house here and have a house in the Greek Islands.
I would anonymously help people I heard about in the news or by word of mouth.
I would be able to have more pets. And chickens.
Too much money really, but I would invest and keep helping people.0 -
(a) Detached house for me n puss (and few more pets)
(b) Financial Security
(c) Treat mates
(d) Personal Trainer / Personal Chef / Chauffeur / Naked cleaner
(e) House and garden designed to my taste.
(f) Stick my fingers up to the Con Dems!!
(g) Some luxury travel
(h) Personal Shopper / Tailor0 -
Ok, here goes nothing!
2million into an instant access savings account, I will live off the interest from this as my "wages".
1million to my dad so he can keep the house he's in and not worry.
1million to my mum for her to get somewhere for herself.
1million to bf to do with whatever he likes.
I'd pay off any debts, finish decorating my flat and then rent it out.
I'd buy somewhere not quite derelict and do it up.
I'd split 1million amongst my friends.
I'd buy somewhere nice to live in LA and somewhere in San Francisco. (I like California)
I have money left for travel and charity as opportunities arise.
I think I have at least 3 million left over from my plan here that I'm not sure what to do with!
Right, back to work and earning pennies! Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
I just caught a snippet on the tv. A massive triple rollover, tomorrow. £17 million. I won't be winning it as i have'nt bought a lottery ticket in yonks :rotfl::rotfl: But it set me off musing. What would all you debt free wanabee's do, with £17 million?
OK, i'll start :-
Surprisingly, very little, ( in my eyes )
1) Pay all my bills up to date, ( i class them as debts )
2) Go to the supermarket
3) This is where i start getting ' biggies' . Okay, so most people would go and buy the car of their dreams, but since i'm pretty much happy with my car, i'd keep it, but know i had enough money for repairs / petrol.
4) Buy or more probably rent a house at the seaside. In fact i'd have so much money, i could afford to rent, so why bother buying?
5) Have an endless supply of money for travelling. Not 1st class travel or 1st class hotels, but i could backpack wherever i wanted around the world.
which leads me on to no :-
6) I could help with any charity work i wanted, anywhere in the world, both financially, physically and mentally
7) and lastly, i'm not sure about this one, because this in my eyes its pretentious, but as i'm a great lover of the sea and yachting, maybe i should buy my own yacht. Nothing pretentious like a millionaires super boat, just a small 30 ft yacht, preferably the one owned by Griff Rhys J**** :rotfl::rotfl: drool, drool
Ah well, in my dreams
Over to you...................................................
What would I do? Well, I wouldn't be living in England any longer - that's for certain.0 -
I know I wouldn't go public with it! Why do people do that? As I understand it Camelot give winners the choice of going public or remaining anonymous. What is the upside of going public?
I think I would do some typical Lotto winner dream purchases - flash car, house, first class airfares for holiday. I don't think I would buy holiday homes anywhere: why let squatters claim my (not so) hard earned properties! Instead I would just do short rentals if ever I wanted to holiday somewhere.
I'd learn a foreign language by going to somewhere like Spain or Italy and living there for a few months, attending language class part time by day and completely immersing myself in the culture.0 -

I feel going public is like being too big headed! (rubbing peoples nose in it!)
Also it'll create begging letters and skeletons coming out of one's closet and why do advertising for Camelot?0 -
What was it George Best said?
I'll spend it on wine, women and song and squander what's left!!!!!0
