What would you do with £17 Million?
Comments

First I'd pay off my mortgage and the debts
Second I would by myself a car
Third I'd book a really nice holiday for my kids and extended family and friends
Fourth I'd pay off all the families and friends mortgages
Then with the rest I'd donate to charity - especially the hospice my Dad was in before he passed away- and invest a lot away for my childrens future
don't think all that would come anywhere near 17 million tho0 -
£17 grand would be quite welcome really!
I'd clear my overdraft, pay for a trip to Houston that's coming up in October (and upgrade my flights to premium/business class!) and wipe out my student loan. Stick the remainder in savings for house deposit (not that there'd be much change from all that!).
I don't think I'd like £17 million. I wouldn't know what to do with it and I think it would cause too many arguments. I'd hate to have all those open handed folk expecting a chunk of it. Pity they can't have 34 jackpots of £500,000, or 170 prizes of £100,000. It'd make a difference to a lot more people- pay off some debts, pay for tuition fees/ training, have a nice holiday.

Of course nobody has said the obvious - you could invest in a deposit account at 5% and still earn over 850,000 per annum.
So the first thing I would do is.....retire.
Go on a round the world cruise (to think how to spend the money).
I would spend the rest of my life travelling the world in absolute luxury.
A ski lodge in the alps for the part of the winter.
A "winter" house in Queensland for some winter sun.
A (european) summer lodge in Sweden
And some cars
A Porsche Cayenne Turbo
An Ariel Atom V8
A Mercedes SLS
A McLaren MP4 12C
...........and then I would start seriously spending moneyMoney won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!0 -
My plan is to buy a large plot of land in southern Utah or northern Arizona (just over the border from Nevada). On that land I'd build 5 houses around a shared pool - for us, my parents, Marley's Mum, BIL, and some house staff. The rest of the money, carefully invested, would cover our living expenses for a good many years.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Id take care of those closest to me ie pay off any debts. Also set up a fund for those in debt. Set up a fund for disabled adults to get equipment they need. My dream is to also have a animal sanctuary.
Im getting that ticket in the morning.0 -

Ohh the possibilities!
First off, clear the debt, buy a house, nothing massive, a nice detatched house in a good area with 4 or 5 bedrooms max, buy a house at Loch Ness as it's the most beautiful, peaceful, relaxing place I've ever been, buy my parent's and grandparents a house, but not actually say I'd won the lottery till I'd bought and done them up for them as I know the houses they'd wantput aside £2m each for my kids, and £2m for me to live on, give the rest of my family and friends a tidy sum, enough to buy them a nice house and have a nice bit put aside for them not worry about money, go travelling with my kids, and not just lovely seaside hols, proper travelling, seeing countries the way they really are, I've always wanted to do that! Ending with 3 weeks at Disney Florida, then come home, get a reality check and register full time at Uni to become a teacher with no worries about how am I going to earn money and study at the same time. Give a fair whack to charities, Yorkhill hospital, the hospice caring for my Granda, Cancer research, and whatever other ones I think need it most, then live a lovely, carefree life, teaching because I love it, cooking in my gorgous kitchen I paid cash to have installed, and spending holidays at Loch Ness, or in a far off country with my kids, then Grandkids, and Great Grandkids

Hmmmm..... what would I do?
I'd pay off the mortgage (my teenage son says every week that even if we won the lottery he wouldn't want to move as he is happy here).
I'd buy relatives and true friends a house or pay off their mortgages.
Put a huge chunk away for my kids futures, not to be touched for fancy cars or partying but to be spent on property, university etc.
I'd travel the world with my DH and kids.
I think I'd also buy a plot of land and start up a retirement home for unwanted animals to live out their days in comfort.
To be honest though, I'd just like to win enough to pay off debts and clear the mortgage so that I wouldn't feel like I was working for nothing all the time!Shellshock  or Nik now the shock has subsided!!DMP March 11Savings account opened Jan 11 £10£1 coin savings tin - £22Total Debt [STRIKE]Jan £31,519.87[/STRIKE]!!!:( March [STRIKE]£30,879[/STRIKE] April £30,202DMP Member 4020 -
Pay off my debts.
Buy myself a little place near my children in Milton Keynes, rent a room out to someone I know to keep an eye on the place.
Buy a house in France and somewhere in Spain thats quick to get to, apartment somwehere.
Sit down with my family and ask them what they needed, probably pay of mortgages.
Trust funds for my children to be available when they are 21.
Invest in a business dragons den style.
Bank the rest and retire living off the interest, travel the world ticking off the places I want to see.
Start a benevolant fund for good causes with a committee allocating the money on a vote basis.0
