What would you do with £17 Million?

To quote Office Space, "I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities..."
But if I did actually win it, it'd be part of the work syndicate, so I'd get 1.7M; after taxes, that's maybe 900k. Clear these millstone mortgages, split the rest across ten banks so I stay under the FSCS limit on each, and finally take a week off work so I can plumb up my bathroom
I'd probably get bored if I took more than a week off, though...Debts (26.3% remaining) - CC/BARC: [strike]2058[/strike] 100.00 @0%; CC/MBNA: [strike]1877.75[/strike] 0.00; Loan/SLC: [strike]10000[/strike] 7901.84 @1.5%; Loan/Per: [strike]1500[/strike] 0.00; Loan/HX: [strike]15000[/strike] 0.00

I would pay off the mortgages of my nearest and dearest. Then I would start building; housing for rent and social housing. I would fund the second from the lottery win and the proceeds of renting.

1) I'd pay off all my debts and my OH debts.
2) I'd buy a house by the sea for my parents, give £250k to my sister, and £100k to each of my brothers (my brothers are already stonking rich), £100k in trust for each of mine and my OHs kids for when they turn 25, give £20k to each of my nieces and nephews (all 12 of them!), and £2.5k to each of my great nieces and nephews (12 of them too) and then some to my friends to add up to about £1.5 million pound giveaway to my nearest and dearests!
3) I'd buy my dream home in the country, with stables and land.
4) I'd go on my first holiday in 6 years.
5) New car each for me and OH
6) A million shared to the three charities I support.
7) Invest the rest for income and retire![STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. Buy a house or a flat overlooking a park or the sea. Buy my nearest relatives houses. Invest enough money to get me a very good income. Fund some good causes.0

Wow, that's a huge amount of money.
I'd pay off the mortgage and my debts. I don't think we'd move, because although the house is by no means perfect, we are part of a community we like. So, I'd convert the loft and do some work on the house, but stay here. Don't need a new car, but have always longed for a VW camper, so that would be on my list!
I'd buy my parents (or maybe just the whole family) a caravan or cottage by the sea. They struggle to afford holidays, so I would love to be able to do that for them. I'd buy my dad a laptop!
I'd invest some money for the children's education.
I'd buy OH any adaptive equipment he would like, regardless of cost (and some of it is madly expensive).
I'd take the kids abroad - a lot.
I'd buy books. I'd start shopping in local delis and farmers markets as often as I could.
Some of it has to go to charity. There's a local animal welfare charity which is brilliant, and I would love to help them out seriously.
As for the rest, no idea. Can't even get my head round it!2011 wins: 2 day gym membership, film download, NETBOOK!Debt at LBM: [STRIKE][/STRIKE] [STRIKE]26/1/11 = £4733.26[/STRIKE] 11/6/11 = £3759.3840 -
Id buy this house, and renovate it, and turn it into a respite home for families of people with cancer to have a break away.

Id also pay off the mortgages off my struggling friends and family, and take my children to lots of under developed countries to do working holidays.0 -
Buy myself a new home - I have a large family so it needs to be large (6/7 bed) without being pretentious. A flat for my brother, house for Mum, house for Dad (or their mortgages paid off). Pay their debts.
A new people carrier (not brand-new), a Triumph Spitfire for myself for when I have a day off (!)
Private schools for the kids. There are lots around here that are not full of Lady Penelopes.
A holiday home on Loch Ness. A small shopping flat in Paris (and with their prices, it would be small! But that would be a personal breakaway thing and not a family holiday).
Money in trust for my kids and three nieces. I may even give some to the ex's family, but only those that I liked! I guess I would probably buy the ex a small place somewhere so that he has room to have the kids overnight and there are no excuses. But a hitman would be cheaper.........
A holiday to Disneyland Paris, in the best hotel, 1st class train etc. And indulge the kids in almost whatever they wanted for the week.
Then I would start on the donations. Some to a local group I used to volunteer for, some money to the school/clubs that my kids attend now, Help for Heroes, some to the regiment my brother is in to revamp their mess, museum and memorial; perhaps even try and take on their museum as a project to get it re-opened to the public. Start a restoration project on this towns war memorials. There are lots of them and the council are always complaining they haven't the funds to help; a bit ideological but perhaps the restoration team could also utilise ex-cons or those on community service.0 -
Easy
I would buy this

and turn it into a care setting where young adults with mental health/learning disabilities could learn to live independently (with supervision) instead of going into care homes.DH and I have dreamed about this,it is actually what we do for a living anyway,so woldn't be a huge step.Would have facilities where they could swim/ride horses on site. Would offer respite facilities as well. Would build my own house on it too.
Pay off close friends and families mortgages, give money to my daughters (in trust for younger ones), and send youngest child to private school, but not a la di da place.
Buy a nice car,pay off all my debts, and put rest in bank.
Oh while my place was getting sorted,I would buy a Winnebago and tour Europe for a couple of months.:DDebts :Paypal £1981.32
Monzo Loan £4278.16
Virgin CC £2137 0% until Dec 23
HSBC £5471.01 0% until Feb 2025
Emergency pot £404.47/2500
1p Savings Challenge £1.45/660
52 week Savings: £22.00/14000 -
I wouldnt give any to charity, they already get money from the Lotto.
I'd give a decent wedge to family and friends. Buy a big house. Never work again. See the world. And sleep with lots of goldiggers/high class hookers!
Forget the £17 mil though, I want the £68 mil on the Euromillions on Friday.Debt at 1/1/11 £7,049.75, now £6,682.12 at 9/3/110 -
Well,I already have enought nice cars, a nice house and a boat in Spain-I would give 10mil or so to my closest friends-after all, whats the point being rich if your mates are skint? My parents are elderly, and have a house of their own, they are not broke so 500k would be plenty. Same for my sisters.....
I would found a charity of some sort in memory of my friend that died of Breast cancer late last year with the substantial part of the rest...oh ,and buy my DH a small aeroplane as he's not flown since reitrement...Debt-free...and staying that way...0
