Ladies - how fussy are you when it comes to getting a smear done?

  • Got my first one in an hour - feeling horrible about it now! Not helped by one of my friends telling me that hers was so bad that she won't tell me until after today!

Please tell me it's not that bad!
  • It isn't that bad, just having a stranger fiddling with your bits is not something you would choose as a hobby. Honestly, the thought of it is far worse than the reality.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

Honestly, it's really not. Your friend must have been the exception rather than the rule.

It really really isn't that bad, honest!
  • Thanks for the encouragement - it wasn't as bad as I was expecting! Felt like I was in the waiting room for an eternity though!

    Hi ladies,

I've been called for a test but as I've never been sexually active :o I don't think I need to go?!

Also, sorry if this is TMI and OT but I'm incredibly self concious about my ummm nether regions (hence me being this old and you know :o). I feel like it looks abnormal :( Anyone else feel like this?? I'm even too embarrassed by it to have a bikini wax!!

Haven't read the whole thread, there's loads of it, did you go OP?

I babble like an eejit throughout my appointment and do breathing exercises. It's not pleasant but it's not painful and, one comment I did read, I 'd rather go through a smear than leave things too late and leave my children without a mother. Mine is due this summer and I have already checked with my surgery that they have the date on file and will call me in when it's due (moved areas since last one). My mum has abnormal results pretty much all the time and has been lucky enough to get away with laser treatment but it's scared her silly and she still leaves it until I bully her into making an appointment... then she goes and gets an abnormal result... flipping typical... it's what has made me conscientious about it though

I understand self-consciousness, they're not exactly pretty things but if it's inhibiting you from being intimate then I think you may be a little more that self-conscious. Everybody is different. I'm pretty sure you could find pics if you wanted to compare (however I couldn't imagine anything worse tbf). If you are healthy then I think it would be fairly safe to assume you're "normal" :)

As for not going for a bikini wax - if that's abnormal so am I

I haven't had one done and, quite frankly, I would really rather not!

Our surgery now has a smear clinic. You're supposed to go to this clinic now but it has Doctors that rotate

I'd have thought it would have been easier if they sat still.
