I haven't had a scale & polish for years, I'd rather a smear any day, dental hygienist are just torturers in green face masks :D

    They are aren't they??

Unfortunately I have to go every three months as I have gum disease and don't want to lose my teeth

My next visit is with a 'specialist' 1 hour either side over two days and 4 injections per day and they go deep into my gums below the gums  Now that's an appointment I have been putting off :o

Wow its true! Going for a smear test IS easier than going to the dentist! For one it is far quicker ...! And less painful/uncomfortable. I have sensitive teeth so the water cleaning bit can make me jump.

That was quick. Dont panic at the abnormal cells, lots of people can get that result, it doesn't automatically mean the worst.

If you do end up needing treatment, at least it was picked up on early. x

Appointment is at 4.50pm and I'm *squeeing*. Typically, have a little breakthrough bleeding, but am going to go rather than using that as an excuse to cancel the appointment. Have decided to use friend's advice and ask her to use a child's speculum. Awful that such a thing exists, but anyhoo.
Sister actually remembered (when I didn't) that I had abnormal cells in the past, so even more reason to make sure I bite the bullet this time.
I am so keen to take control of my life and health in every other way, why should this be any different.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

I had a smear test done last week and didn't find it particularly awful (admittedly I've been very busy breeding the last few years so am quite used to unknown people poking about in there-that sounds awful, I mean medical staff, not random men!) Did find it quite strange though when the nurse pointed out that I had fabulously toned pelvic floor muscles and asked if I did anything to get them that way. I just thought, lady if I were going to spend time toning, I start on the bums and thighs first.

Good for you! Big deep breaths, just think, in a wee while it'll all be over and you'll be sat eating your dinner. :)

  • Beggerations. They phoned to make sure I was keeping the appointment (a lot of people don't turn up) and I told them about the "show" and they said they wouldn't be able to do it. The nurse said I could still come in and chat to her, so I knew her face and she would talk me through what was done and why so I knew her face and wouldn't be so scared next time. Yay! Re-made appointment for a weeks time and will definately keep it. What a nice lady.
