about 7 yrs ago I had 2 abnormal smears on the trot so had to have further investigations at the local hospital. Given the all clear (eventually!)

Last year I had an abnormal smear after thinking I must book one after having my normal recall letter. Luckily the one I had 6 months later was OK but still have to have another one in a few months time just to be on the safe side.

As I said previously I just wish I didn't find granny knickers so comfortable!

Ladies, I can't believe you've reached page 13 and not one post addressing the REAL question...when getting a smear done, how fussy are you when it comes to tending to your *lady garden* ??? :D
Trim the bush neatly :) Right back to the stem lol.

I personally don't worry about my lady 'garden' -i'm going for a smear, not for a date! lol. I won't do anything different or special just for that.

I'd shave my undercarriage, epliate and trim the front. Same as any other time!

Just a quiet wee word of advice ladies, don't have sex the night before your smear. You may find the sample is no use because it's 'too gunky' and it has to be redone. :o

Lol, I always make sure that nookie is off the menu for at least a week before my appointment! Much to my OH's annoyance. :rotfl:

As someone who at the age of 24 had a severely abnormal smear (CIN3) and had to go through a colposcopy, a loop biopsy and then a colposcopy and then smears every 6mths and now every year for the next 10 years..I thank God I live in Wales (as otherwise would not have even had a smear by then let alone be on my 3rd smear!) and that the smear was available to me as a Woman to enable me to go for treatment, get the affected area of my cervix removed and then given the all clear and now get reassurance that Colin (my cervix who after me seeing 'him' on screen so many times I felt deserved a name!) is still well and healthy in there. Some Women are not so lucky and dont know about cervical changes until its too late..yes its a embarrassing and uncomfortable 5mins..however cancer is better treated if found early. Its free, have it..its your body and you have to look after it.
I am happy to say I had my most recent one 3 weeks ago and had my letter last week to say all is well..so until next year I can rest in the knowledge I am 'ok'. :D
Well done to those who have taken the plunge and booked/gone for theirs and to the others, you can do it! x

Must admit to neglecting to go for a smear for some years. But I went for my breast screening last week and thought I may as well book in for a smear with my GP while I was in the right frame of mind!!

WELL DONE to all those brilliant women who have overcome their fear and had this brilliant test. It isn't the nicest but is so important. My practice nurse does mine - she's not the most delicate but I don't have a problem either - very quick and not embarrassing.

She did say that nobody who gets regular smears dies of cervical cancer.

She explained that at the speed it grows it should be detected at a treatable stage. It is only the sad stories of women who skip a few only to find out too late.

As a mum of two gorgeous boys who are going to need their mummy for a very long time it would seem so wrong to make excuses and not go because I am embarrassed.

For anyone still putting it of,f let us know and we can hold your hand through it. You will feel so relieved and chuffed with yourself when you get the all clear.

This is exactly why I get my smear done. I too have two boys, who need their mum to be around, not in a box in the ground. Any amount of discomfort is worth it to avoid that.
