I've got mine tomorrow afternoon, yuck.
I hate the squelchy knickers after, no matter how much tissue they give me I never seem to be able to mop it all up. I'll be walking through the playground thinking everyone can tellAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Maybe they use more on me because I have a wonky cervix which involves alot of poking around?
Oohhh, I wondered what on earth you meant! :rotfl:
I've got a wonky cervix too, the GP has to have a right good fumble to get at it properly
Never come out with squelchy nethers though, maybe tell them to go easy on the KY next time?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I'm back!
I wont mind if you all clap. :rotfl: That was nerve racking and I felt physically sick in the waiting room. Made worse by the snippy up her own @ss receptionist who had a manner that would have made a lemon seem sweet.
I need occasional tablets for something and the Docs are usually happy to write a prescription without needing to see me. I phoned ahead to tell the receptionist I was coming in and would it be possible for a Doc to write a prescription so I could pick it up at the same time as my smear. I wasn't sure if they could/would do this so I wasn't going to be surprised if she said no. Her attitude about the whole request stunk and she was as abrupt as heck. By the time I was in the waiting room I felt nervous and annoyed.
BUT, nurse was lovely and not only did she do the deed quickly and efficiently, she got my prescription sorted out too.She told me to lie down and I said I didn't want to. :rotfl: I think she got the gist of how I was feeling by that.
The smear only took a minute, I had no problem with the speculum thingy, in fact I never even actually saw it, it was in there and opened with absolutely no discomfort at all. Only thing I did feel a little uncomfortable with, was when she was brushing the area to get the cells. It wasn't sore in any way, it just felt a bit 'not nice'. iyswim.
Apparently my last smear was in 1999.I'm really pleased I've done it now. I realise I had built it up out of all proportion and I was being daft but you can't help how you feel can you?
Seems the results round our way take between 3-4 weeks to come back. Fingers crossed all will be well.....I'm not the luckiest of people you know.
Thanks to all of you for keeping me company in the thread, whether it was to sympathise or to @ss kick.I hope those of you who are putting it off will reconsider and try very hard to bite the bullet. Then you can share my smug feeling.

Nice nurses always help, especially when you're feeling a little anxious.
I fortunately have a nice nurse who does it now and uses the plastic implement at my request, so don't mind getting it done so much now. First time I had it done it was a different practice, the nurse wasn't gentle, used a metal one and managed to pinch me with it. Totally understand about the nerves though!Dec GC; £208.79/£220
