well i did it
Had an appointment booked with the nurse for tomorrow, but was also seeing her today to have my stiches removed, and said to her you have the joys of seeing me tomorrow also, she said oh i can do it now if you like as my next patient is not here yet.
Glad she got me today as would have been a nervous wreck tomorrow, and im not as naughty as i though i was i thought i had last had one at 18 (27 now) and had 2 kids but she said i had one done in 2007.
Explained how nervous i was and family background and she was lovely.
Just going to worry for the next 2 weeks until i get the results now.0 -

Aaaaaand relax! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Did any of you other feardies go?
I've been putting it off for at least 3 years, possibly longer.:o I had the letter for me to sign telling me I now wouldn't get any more reminders, but I've started getting reminders again.
And yes I know I should, and each time I'm full of good intentions, but the last 2 were just so painful, and then I got recalled for an insufficient sample after the really cack-handed nurse left me bleeding for the next couple of days, so I strongly suspect that my intentions will come to nought. Again. Unless I can get it done via valium or something. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Hi Ladies. I would like you to ask is it essential for a virgin woman to have a smear test after she reaches due age?Or is just for sexually active ladies??
Is there anyone who may not need to go for a cervical screening?
A small minority of women may not need a cervical screening:
Women who have never been sexually active
The incidence of cervical cancer is extremely rare in women who have never been sexually active and the guidelines issued suggest that women who are sexually active attend for screening at the age of 25. More than 99% of cervical cancers are linked to infection with the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) so it is recommended that if you have had sexual intercourse or genital-to-genital contact with a man or a woman, even just once, then you should attend for regular cervical screenings.
If you are not currently in a sexual relationship but have been in the past, you are recommended to have regular cervical screening.

Hiya
I have smear tests every 6 months and have done for quite a few years. Most of my smears come back with slight changes and i have previously had treatment to remove pre cancerous cells.
I always ask for the same nurse to do them as i ahev a tilted pelvis and she can find my elusive cervix quicker than some of the others.
Im now due for another colposcopy at the hospital .....yes it is rather cringe worthy but preferable to cancer. xxxxx0 -

I found that really hard, just the actual phoning up for the appointment. I knew once I'd made the app, I'd have to go.Got just over a week to wait for mine now.
However, I did something else I'd been putting off and went to the Doc to get blood pressure taken and got a wee once over. I've started exercising in earnest now and I just wanted to check I wasn't going to keel over as my heart rate goes alarmingly high really quickly. I had also torn a muscle in my arm many months ago (not through exercise I hasten to add) and it's constantly sore so I needed that checked too. So bit by bit, I'm having a complete overhaul. :rotfl: My blood pressure is too high, my arm will take months to fix and it may need a wee op so I'm hoping I dont get a bad smear result as well, to make it a hat trick.I want to be in my 20's again!
GET ON THE PHONE YOU LOT! *waves big sergeant major stick*
Just make the appointment. You can worry about the event later.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I understand your concerns, but that pain for a short amount of time is preferable to the excruiating, longer lasting pain that can come with cancer if left too long.
Please, please, please call your GP surgery, explain your fears and ask if they can help. Perhaps even make an appt to see the doctor first and discuss it with him/her.
They may be able to give you a muscle relaxant to take before hand. I had an IUD fitted on Friday morning, and they gave me a painkiller with a mild muscle relaxant to take before hand to help make it easier and less painful. And they do that as standard in my surgery, I didn't ask for it, so I'm sure your GP will be able to help you in a similar way if you let him/her know your concerns.

I , just like the OP HATE going for smear tests...but I do it because I have to.....
Just over 2 years ago I attended for my smear and it was borderline which as you all know means there are some changes...
The smear was re-done 6 months later and again was abnormal. In total I had 5 abnormal results and the Doctor decided that a sixth one would mean I had to have treatment to remove the cells.
For some strange reason the sixth smear came back normal and as it had been done by a Student nurse at the clinic I just wasnt content with the result so I requested that it be done again (you can never be too sure) . Thankfully after having another smear done by the Doctor it too was normal!
I am now recalled every year instead of every three years and funnily enough got a letter just this morning asking me to make an appointment to go in for a test....Which of course I have just telephoned the surgery to arrange. The loopy one has gone :j0
