Nationwide: does anyone logon with the card reader?

I always log on with my card reader, I did not think I had another option. If so, I prefer to use memorable data instead of having to get the card and reader out.0

When you log in, first of all there is the screen where you enter your customer number. When you click "Continue", the next page displays the "Use your Card Reader" tab but you will see there is another tab named "Use your memorable data". Click on that tab and you reach the memorable data and Passnumber section.
You can then view your accounts and transfer funds but will need the Card Reader to set up new Standing Orders and so on.0 -
I always use the memorable data. It's less effort than using the card reader. That said, it's good to know if you use the card reader you don't then have to use it for transferring money - thanks for the heads-up.
I get irritated at the way Nationwide make you use the card reader each and every time you transfer money. Surely they can work out if you've transferred cash to one account a dozen times before, it's going to be okay to do it again? NatWest have the right idea IMO by making you use the reader the first time you send money to an account but not for subsequent transactions.Sealed Pot Challenge Number 1225

Thanks, now it has been mentioned, I have noticed I can use memorable data, so much easier for me.0

I'll ask this question here first before I start a new thread.
I have only ever used memorable data to log onto Nationwide online banking but just thought I'd give the card reader log-in a go. Unfortunately I have entered the passcode wrongly 3 times. I think the first time I didn't choose the right card from the dropdown menu, then I put the passcode with the space (e.g. 1234 5678) and then without the space. I've been temporarily locked out for 60 minutes.
Please can someone tell me if the space should be entered or omitted? Thanks in advance!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

I had been under the impression that using the card reader at log-in would avoid the need to use it again to make payments to an external account.
This has not been my experience - on two consecutive days I have logged in with the card reader but been required to use the card reader to make a payment to an external account (the same account on each day) which had been set up for some time and I believe had received payments in the past.
Is there some other requirement to avoid having to repeatedly use the card reader? Is it that if you log in with the card reader you only need to use the card reader again for the first payment out and not any subsequent ones in the same session? Or is it that you don't need the card reader just to set up a recipient.
I've asked NW about this but not expecting a reply for a while.

Received reply within about 10 hours of leaving secure message (which is good as the promise is to be within five working days). Boiler plate response of why they are introducing card readers and when they would ask customers to use it. So, as I find it is quicker and easier to user the memorable data by keyboard and mouse, there is a disincentive to use it for logging in with no gain of not having to use it again in the same online session.0 -

I noticed the first time I ever logged in this way, that's how it worked. Like you I've noticed that it still checks every transaction now which can be a pain if you are making payments.
One of my biggest gripes is I need to use the card reader to transfer money out of the joint account into the OH's account. I can see why they implement this but my OH could take the money out in the same way without the card reader as they are named on the account.
I still feel a little more secure than I do with the Halifax where I sit counting letters from my password...0
