Nationwide: does anyone logon with the card reader?

  • I use the reader at least once a week esp. as some online tasks are impossible w/out it. I don't find it a bother or too fiddly, and it works with my barclays card reader too.
  • I have never used my card or reader before, I only ever use the account to transfer money between Nationwide accounts and occasionally my Halifax account. I HATE the card reader just wasted a whole hour trying to transfer £50 from my Nationwide account to my Halifax account!
My Roboforms password manger no longer works with Nationwide login, so fiddle about getting account number etc to log in, go to transfer money, select my Halifax account from list [used before] then asked for security code generated by card reader!! Ring up Nationwide to ask if using card reader compulsory, as I don't want it and I didn't ask for it, was cut off! Second call told yes its compulsory now. Grrr now where did I put the reader, I was sent it months ago and haven't used it. Then need to go and find the safe key as I keep my card in there, as the account was only ever opened for internet banking purposes I have had no need of the card previously. OK now I have located the card and reader, I begin the log in and transaction again, only to hit another stumbling block as I have never used the card before, I haven't needed the PIN and so now I have locked the card!!!! Another call to ask for PIN to be sent GRRRRR and I still haven't got me £50.

Roboforms is in principle insecure - I don't wonder if NW have blocked its use.

Took the card reader back to the Branch. Got a signature for its return. Never used it. Never needed to.

To access "Roboforms password saver", I need to use a password [different to all my on-line accounts], this only filled in my NW customer number and memorable data, I then manually entered my account password.

I kept the card in the safe because I had no need of it, as I only ever used the account for online banking.
