I wouldn't call an interest amount of 3.12% bad considing the current bank of england base rate... So I still use Nationwide.God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -
Thing is it dose not improve security. Think about this. Your bag purse wallet gets nicked and with it your card reader. They now have the four numbers you use because they are the four most worn buttons.
Now I know they have not got the order but until that horrid little reader came out they only would have my card.
I've had the card reader ever since it was first introduced, and use it for 3 accounts regularly. None of the buttons show any sign of wear, and your pin isn't the only number you are typing into it - there is all the reference stuff.
Plus who says there are 4 numbers in your PIN, and even if there was, the odds of getting it in the right order before the 3 attempt lock out is pretty low.
I'm not saying it isn't annoying - I find them annoying as well (easy to say when it's not my money at risk though!) - but it isn't a security risk and definitely does increase security. Honestly think about, why would they possibly go to all this expense otherwise? Just for a laugh?0 -
I find it very annoying0

I have a couple of devices that need the batteries they use, so to me they are a source of free batteries.
So in about a years time I will have lost mine and need a new one.:rotfl:
I pretended I'd lost mine so I could get a second one to keep in work (they work with Barclays as well, luckily).
I actually did the request twice in the hope of getting another two readers, but they saw through it and only sent me one new one0 -

Tell them the battery has gone0 -
Use mine quite easily - card in, punch in PIN and passcode out. Also found that my NW card works on my Barclays card reader.0

If your card reader has worn buttons, just ask for a new one, there is no charge.Wearing my other one today.0 -
You are also expected to change your cards PIN code regularly, so instead of requesting a new card reader, confuse the theif by changing your PIN code so it contains none of the digits of buttons which are worn. They only have 3 attempts before your card is blocked, so good luck to them!
Personally, I change my PIN code at the beginning of each month.0 -
In my experience, NW only need the blasted card reader when you set up a new payment. Making a transfer to an existing payee goes through seemlessly without any daft requests for the size of your inner angle measurement etc.0

That card reader milarky is a massive pain in the !!! and is one of the big reasons why I moved my current account away from Nationwide. I still have my flexaccount for a few bits of income, but no I don't use it to log on and hope they get rid of it. Even if they still paid decent interest on the flexaccount the card reader would still have made me leave. You have to use it to pay anyone or do most things online. I've had this out with Nationwide on the phone.... it is a pointless system still easy to fool by criminals (card readers are easily reverse engineered) but makes customers lives difficult. My elderly mother is always getting confused by it.
If they really need more security they should use the call back thing that Lloyds Banking group use.0
