No. I closed my Flexaccount but it still lists my debit card for login (to check CC). I wonder if it still works if I dig out the pieces from the bin and piece the card back together?

As Alter Ego said... they might be..

My Nationwide and Co-Op card readers work for each other...

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.

I do if I have bills to pay. If you log in using the card reader it doesn't ask you to verify each transaction with a passcode.

The above is very usefull, thanks. I could not be bothered to get out of my chair to fetch my card everytime I log on. If I was forced to use the card reader everytime I log on I would look for another account.

As far as I know, and have read, they are all identical; you should only ever need one.

Quite a few card readers are interchangeable. They are all basically but with different layouts and key names. I use my Barclays reader on my Natwest account.

I used to work in customer services for Nwide and often used to say this to people who wereaway from home but needed to do things online.

They are, I have Barclays & Nationwide A/c's and I use the same reader for them both.

I leave the Barclays one in my car and Nationwide in the house, there are 3 Nationwide readers in our home and just grab which ever is closer.

Also when at work I used to borrow someones card reader if I'd forgotten mine (which wasn't Barclays or Nationwide) or just used the one to log in to the works PC that also worked. Most card readers are made by the same company so will work with any bank that use card readers. I think Lloyds and Natwest used to use a PIN generating device (keyring) so they wouldn't work with Barclays or Nationwide.

No. Returned the first one I got over a year ago to my local Nationwide Branch.

Received another one 2 days ago. Called N/W customer service. Advised them I had already returned the first one. His words were 'just throw it out' I asked if he could forward me a pre-paid envelope rather than throw it out as I didn't want another trip to the branch to return it. He said he'd 'try' and get a 'pre-paid' envelope to me. We'll see!

It seems a wast to send someone something they'll never use.

trying to avoid using card readers like the plague. I grudgingly use them for payments, but would probably close my accounts too if they forced me to use them for login as well - couldn't use my EMM login if they did, and EMM is essential for me.

Similar, if a bank or credit card company forced me to receive a text code on my mobile, I'd move on. I don't want them to know my mobile number.
