Tazbar has a feedback system, new users get around the problem of having to start with no feeback by using the same username as they did on eBay and including a little piece of html in their listing that shows a current running total of their feedback on eBay.

You can find the code for that in the Tazbar forums.

I've just found an auction site that appears to be quite new:

    http://www.bestauction.co.uk

They are very cheap, but hopefully they will be a success.

I'm going to sign up with Tazbar as soon as I have a little free time, also the Google alternative when it comes out. Not sure about Ebid, what's the general verdict? I'm not abandoning Ebay altogether but my plan is to gradually give them less and less of my custom.

I've not heard anything about this, that could be a real competitor.

there is no alternative at the moment but dont worry bout it too much.
the free market and the law of economics will decide when a big boy decides to take some/all of the cream from ebay.
im sure google, yahoo, and others are running the slide rule over the figures as we speak.

Yahoo already have an auction site in the US, the fact that no one really mentions it shows how difficult it is even for big players to dent ebay. If I recall, and I can't find the details to check, they decided against relaunching the UK side as they had already tried and failed ot take on ebay here.

Found it, here's the notice of closure for yahoo uk auctions:

    http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/auctions/notice/

    where it says :

We recommend that in the future, our customers try out the great service offered by eBay, our preferred online auction service. To register now, go to https://www.ebay.co.uk.

I don't like Ebay anymore and have gievn them enough money in the past, but sadly it seems they have the online auction business sown up.
