Whilst flicking radio stations in my car today I heard a woman talking about a website where you can swap or sell items with no charges (unless you use paypal when buying or selling). I have had a brief look & there are just over 500 items listed. The website address is https://www.whatsmineisyours.com

  • The general consensus seems to be though, that dispite it's faults, you won't find better than ebay simply because no one else has the same number of potential customers/level of exposure.

If everyone stays with eBay, there never will be any competition. People are going to have to take a risk and use one or more of the other sites as well as, or instead of, eBay if they ever want some real competition. Maybe, just maybe, if enough people support the underdogs, then Feebay will sit up and take notice of the many thousands of people who are unhappy with them.
    Why Pay High Fees
on eBay when there ARE alternative sites available?

I sell books and small collectable items ( i.e postcards, enamel badges etc..). As my items are mainly low value it's not viable for me to sell on Ebay. I use the following sites:

www.amazon.co.uk. I have about 2000 books listed on amazon and I sell enough each month to make paying for pro merchant subscription viable.

www.ebid.co.uk. I list a mix of auctions and 'buy it nows' I sell a similar number of books each month on EBID as I do on Amazon, and make regular sales of other items . In my experience succesful selling on ebid compares closer with Amazon than ebay. e.g the more i list, the more i sell. I've paid a one of lifetime subscription so all my listings are free. the only fees I pay are for choosing to use 'gallery', and these only apply if the item sells. EBID isn't for everyone, but it works well for me.

www.qxl.co.uk. I started listing on qxl because they emailed me and invited me to list my postcards for free, I've not had time to list much there, but have made a few sales

www.tazbar.com. I have a few items listed here, but have been awaiting the availability of a bulk scheduler befoe listing more. Only a couple of sales so far

www.greenmetropolis.com. One of the easiest sites to list on, and a useful place to list low value books ( at the fixed price set by greenmet). i find sales are like busses, none for ages then three come at once! overall it's worth the effort though.
There is no such word as "bidded". I bid, you bid, they bid, Ebid ;)

That is so strange as that is exactly what happens to my sales. I'll go for ages without a sale then I'll get 2 or 3 in a matter of days. I don't make masses of sales on Greenmet but it's really nice when they do come through and I tend to keep the balance in there until I need extra spending at Christmas or holidays.

This thread seems like a good place to discuss sites other than ebay.
