It would be nice for the OP to pass comments on the suggestions so far?

I attended a Jaguar owners club event a couple of years ago and on display was one of the last XJ12s built. 1986 model, it had been used by Government and had a file of invoices as thick as a telephone directory - every extra fitted and working.

Doubt it. Series III V12s went on being made up to 1992 ish.

My apologies. With 50+ responses I have been hitting the 'thanks' button for the many useful posts. I have been looking at the links suggested and trying to compare the cars and specifications. I do appreciate the recommendations. I am beginning to favour a Lexus. Regards.

have you actually driven one? I certainly know which I would buy and it wouldn't be a mondeo!

Yes, i have. Nice car, but sticking leather trim into a turbodiesel family car doesnt make it 'luxury'.

You do realise that the Chrysler 300c is rear wheel drive???

Personally I wouldn't let a five days a year dictate my car for the other 360.
I had a BMW Z4 3.0.....2 years I owned it, and in those two years I never couldn't use it due to weather. I even took it to Bridge of Orchy and Glen Etive in the snow and it was fine.

A large amount of a car's ability in the snow is down to the driver - I've seen numerous front wheel drive cars struggle and even saw a 4x4 stuck because of the incompetence of the driver.

    +1

I bought a C class turbodiesel merc at the beginning of 'the big freeze' in december. Put 2000 miles on it during december and jan.

Funny. In your previous post you decribed it as being 'poor'. Alfa isn't the only make which 'sticks' leather into a turbodiesel... I believe Jaguar/Mercs/BMW do also which I believe to be described as 'luxury' cars. At least Alfa's look as though they have been through a proper design process as they have to be one of the most attractive and unique desgins on the road.
