My A3 was in for a service this week they very kindly let me have a very highly specced A4 Quattro for the day, it had all the toys and was very comfortable to drive. I think the cost of a new one is around £35k, so a SH one might fit the bill, I would like one but I am not into saloon style cars.

That's what my Daddy treated himself to when he retired! Beautiful car, even to someone who knows nothing about them (me!).

The Mercedes 3.2 litre CLK 2 door sport coupe is a fabulous car.

Automatic with option to select manual if you prefer but you really won't want to, cruise control, speed limiter, heated seats, leather upholstery, electric steering wheel, memory seats, alloys, parking sensors far too much to list as well as all the standard safety stuff expected of Mercedes. Functions such as phone, CD, onboard trip computer, mileage remaining in the tank - all controlled from the steering wheel buttons.

You don't need a 4 door if there's just you or you and AN Other and the coupe shape is very appealing to the eye. There is no ugly pillar between the front and rear windows on the sides of the car, fabulous on a hot day to have all four windows down with the air con going.
I can get about 31 mpg on motorway runs, less if in a hurry. Pootling around town is significantly less and can be as low as 18mpg.

Of course, it's totally environmentally incorrect especially with fuel prices as they are but if you only do 50 miles a week then it's not quite so naughty.
Go for the pale grey alpaca leather interior. The black interiors look a little too much like a business suit.

    Here's one to look at:

This is a subjective matter but I'm keen on the big Jaguars. I had a 1990 XJ6 4.0 manual for 10 years followed by a 1998 XJ8 3.2 which I've had for 9 years now and plan to keep for much longer. The later car is better quality and very reliable. Same consumption for both at 26 mpg. but as a second car I can keep the mileage low.
