Halifax Clarity application refused

Hi there. My Halifax Clarity application was refused and they wouldn't give me a reason. I looked up my credit rating on Experian and, I'm fortunate to be able to say this but it was excellent. Why would they have refused me - are they refusing people who they think won't incur interest charges?

I do get quite a lot of misdirected post at home and wonder if someone else with a debt problem has 'queered the pitch' by using my address when they shouldn't have. This does not show up on my own credit report, of course. How can I check this out?

Thanks.

Nothing to do with your address, but it might be down to your available credit (especially versus your income), electoral roll, being finacially linked with some else etc etc.

A company that don't lend money have give you an excellent credit score hence the reason you then applied for a halifax card and get declined.

    Enough said!

I take your point, I think (that Experian aren't the lender here) but they record the creditworthiness data that Halifax and others can see, don't they? What would your advice be?

Have Halifax pulled the Clarity (Reward) card? The standard Clarity card is still there but the 'cashback' card appears to have gone AWOL from their site - since last night.
A 'search' pulls up text to it ..... but all the links then fail. I was just looking for an Egg lookalike as I decline to be taken over by Barclaycard. Perhaps Halifax have taken fright at the thought of 1.15M fresh applicants!

I also got turned down for the Halifax Clarity card and also had a clear experian report. I had to take the report into the Halifax then write to the head office and ask them the reason I was declined. After about 2 weeks I had no reply but my application was suddenly accepted and I got the card.

I wasn't aware of it being pulled, but they have also changed their "rewards" credit card offer for current account holders too (to an extra couple of months interest free).

May be it's still available in branch?

Yes and no - Halifax see the raw data - information about all of your financial accounts, electoral role data, CCJ data, previous searches, etc.

They do NOT see Experian's "SCORE". They calculate their own score, using the same data as is on your credit file, but also taking into account information that doesn't appear on your credit file - like employment status, marital status, residential status, income, dependants, occupation, time with bank / employer, etc etc.

This is information Experian DON'T take into account when calculating your score.

The score Experian sell is not comparable with any lender you might choose to apply to, not least because it doesn't use as much data as the lender's scoring model, but it is likely also to use different criteria.

All that is important is the actual raw data in your credit file, not some jumped-up, misrepresentative, mis-marketed "one score fits all" rubbish.

I was looking to apply for this last night, and couldnt find it, have just rung them and opened the Rewards Clarity card on the phone, the advisor wasnt aware it was not available online.

Thanks for that - it's definitely disappeared entirely from online. Inaccessible either from the homepage or via my online portfolio(s). And all the links from this site and from searches on the Halifax homepage simply produce 'problem loading page'.

    I'll ring them later.

Yes - to clarify, that's why I looked at Experian - to find the raw data that Halifax had seen. (I didn't find anything that I thought would have put them off.) I realise the Experian 'score' isn't relevant to lenders. I didn't explain that well, thanks for clarifying it for other readers.

Would Halifax be able to see data on other people using my address (wrongly)? I suspect there is one such person because his car leasing documents keep coming to me. I return them to the sender but they keep coming. If he has defaulted would that count against me because it's wrongly showing my address and how would I find out?
