Yes - to clarify, that's why I looked at Experian - to find the raw data that Halifax had seen. (I didn't find anything that I thought would have put them off.) I realise the Experian 'score' isn't relevant to lenders. I didn't explain that well, thanks for clarifying it for other readers.

Would Halifax be able to see data on other people using my address (wrongly)? I suspect there is one such person because his car leasing documents keep coming to me. I return them to the sender but they keep coming. If he has defaulted would that count against me because it's wrongly showing my address and how would I find out?

Unfortunately they don't want you as a customer, they might have turned you down don't mean another lender will.

Thanks for that - it's definitely disappeared entirely from online. Inaccessible either from the homepage or via my online portfolio(s). And all the links from this site and from searches on the Halifax homepage simply produce 'problem loading page'.

    I'll ring them later.
For anyone still wondering about this, I was told on the phone that they are no longer making a distinction between the Rewards Clarity and bog-standard Clarity card. Anyone applying for a Clarity card will be eligible for the cashback if they meet the criteria.
  • Funnily enough, I am going through the same thing at present. I have a good credit rating and yet was refused. I printed out my credit report and sent it to the Halifax who have still refused it. I will give them a call tomorrow and try and work out what is going on. Experian are also scrathcing their heads.

Part of me wonders if they would sooner lend to people that they are more likely to make money out of.

I went through the 'phone application yesterday. And the young girl seemed very confident with everything else ..... but totally oblivious that the Clarity Reward appears to have disappeared from the online shelves. To the degree of emailing their web team to report it AWOL.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Just a quick update - I spoke to Halifax today who have refused to tell me anything. A letter is in the post for what it is worth.

No, becuase they will be using your name and address not just the address.
Assuming the other people don't have the same name, then Halifax won't see their data.

Sometimes you just have to accept that you are not the kind of customer they want.
Your letter will not get an answer because the reasons are their commercially sensitive criteria.
Unfortunately if their criteria for their target customer became known on sites like this many people would try to change their credit history.
You can appeal and sometimes this works because you are dealt with by a human rather than a computer.
I have had sucess with Egg, but been totally ignored by GE Money. My husband was totally ignored by Barclaycard.
People with very good salaries and credit history do get turned down sometimes. Usually because they won't make the company enough money.

Just to make you feel better, I too applied for a Clarity card and was rejected. I too was confused as I only have mortage debt and never defaulted or been late paying. So I checked my credit history using experian (because the 'nice people' we bought our house off left a never ending stream of debt collectors & credit chasing letters) and I am said to have an 'excellent' credit rating. I guess that they just don't see any money in it for them...

BTW - I was just going to use it for spending abroad - so no big loss. I'll just check out the 'next best thing'...

Halifax's CS need to sort their act out. I had a "plain" Clarity card that didn't get the reward. I spoke to them only last week and was told that I could "upgrade" it to the rewards one and was put through to the "upgrade department" who then told me that the only way to upgrade to the rewards card was to cancel the card and re-apply after 30 days.

I cancelled the card but according to the MSE newsletter of 2nd March the Clarity card is being pulled?

I can't find any mention of this either. Not in the weekly tip emails or on the main site. Care to post a quote/link?
