Just wondering if someone could let me know if the dinner I have planned is suitable for an EE day (my books arrived today, but I was having a lazy lie in and didn't hear the postman!)

I'm making singapore rice noodles, they are my fav and I've got them tasting very close to the ones I used to get from chinese takeaway.

    It's basically;

    Chicken breast 400g
    prawns 200g
    pork fillet 200g
    whole onion
    whole carrot
    1 green pepper
    1 bag beansprouts
    1 can bamboo shoots
1 bag fresh rice noodles 375g (Tesco)

    The sauce is

1 1/2 tablespoons hot curry powder
4 cardamon pods crushed and seeds used only
1 1/2 inch piece fresh grated ginger
    2 cloves fresh grated garlic
    A few splashes each of
    light soy sauce
    concentrated chicken stock
    rice wine vinegar

The whole thing is cooked with sesame oil and from what I can work out the syns are coming from the oil and chicken stock and ? the soy sauce?

I still need to use some oil, the sesame oil gives it flavour too, but what I will do is soften the garlic/ginger in 1/2 teaspoon and then add the other half to cook off the curry powder. From then on any extra oil I would usually add could be frylight? The stock is only about 1/2 teaspoon.

This makes a huugge amount that makes 4 big portions so am eating it for days but I don't care. It tastes extra yummy cold at 8am after a long night shift!

So I'm thinking because it has so much veg in it that is free on both days I can use it as an extra easy meal and not worry about mixing that amount of rice noodles and meat?

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated x

the fresh rice noodles need to be synned. these are 13.5 for the pack.
(dried noodles or pasta are FREE but fresh is always synned)

stock cubes are now free on all plans.

other than that it looks ok ;):T

Really they have to be synned?! But they are literally just rice flour and water. I knew it was too good!

The stock cubes being free is good. Unfortunately you need such as small amount, literally a couple of tablespoons if it's fresh watery stock. I've never been organised enough to use it for something else and it went to waste, hence the concentrated stock bottle.

Although I have been meaning to make soup for a while but just need to get down to doing it. I can then find some use for the rest of the stock I guess?

Oh well even if the whole pack of noodles is 13.5 I guess I can still get the whole pan in for 16 syns at the most and it is well worth using 4 syns per portion - it really is yummy! (my opinion of course i am no chef!)

    Thanks guys x

Im affraid so :o Its always baffled me too that you can eat dried pasta without synning it......but you have to syn the fresh stuff  and its exactly the same with the rice noodles :( At least you know for next time - so you can buy the dried ones ;)

But like you say 4 syns for a really scrummy meal is fab really when you think about it eh? :T

Oh and those knorr stock pot things (little tubs of stock advertised on telly) they are free

It's good to know that even the concentrate is free, I don't know why but I assumed it had syns in.

As a training environmental health officer I can tell you there are some very good reasons why the directions at www.food.gov.uk are put in place. ;) Their advice is :

If you cook something, chill it quickly, then fridge it under 8 then reheat to 63c ( which is lukewarm IMO and quite unpalatable , most of us would reheat a chilli etc to) make sure the food is heated through then the food is likely to be safe. However, cooling it again leave the opportunity for more poisioning bacteria to grow that isnt dealt with in a further reheating.

ost people dont notice food poisioning that they get and its wildly underreported. However, if you are a baby, child, elderly or immunocompromised the risks are a lot bigger.

People died in America from eating undercooked burgers, children with kidney failure etc. from the ack in the box Ecoli outbreak, because burgers were not cooked to a high enough temperature to kill ecoli bacteria. Its scary stuff!

I could blather on all day, but if you reheat it to piping steaming hot youll be safe, if its a home made quorn tinned tomatom chili theres little risk in there in the first place! :D
Thanks Lynz, I kind of know that as I've had to do food safety and hygiene courses when I was looking after old folks ... but I only cook (and reheat:)) for myself now and I don't come into any of the categories and tbh (and I realise this is irresponsible if I'm feeding others!) I look on a touch of food poisoning as a weight loss bonus. Can't remember the last time I had dia dierr diah (oh you know) though and I've never been sick with it. The only thing to make me sick in the past year has been Cherie Blair's comment yesterday about still fancying Tone. :(:(:( Thanks for clarifying though.

I often have upset stomach, sometimes its that I haven't cooked stuff properly or I let the dog lick me face ;) comes from everywhere lol
Sometimes it is just too much fruit & veg!!

Has been ok so far today, did well down at the market with 4 very ripe mangos for £1, 3 dragon fruit for £1 and strawbs & bluberries as well. Stocked up on essentials only and spent 20.00, am really going to try hard to get the costs of eating right down over the next few weeks- going to see if it is indee possible to do SW on a very tight budget.

Is anyone here trying to do it on the cheap, all this fruit and veg really adds up and leanest meat is always the most expensive :(

Lynz, I've decided that as long as I can afford to buy lots of yummy fruit and vegetables I will ... but my big bugbear is when shops, and it's always the big chains, sell under-ripe fruit that never ever ripens. I finally binned half a melon last week, I was sick of chomping on crispy tasteless melon. And now I have half an unripe mango and half an unripe pineapple in the fridge - if I shut my eyes when eating them I cannot tell what I am eating, it's horrible. I think that's why some people don't like fruit, too, when it's hard and tasteless. At least with an apple, pear or mandarin you can tell what you're eating :) You can buy meat with fat on and cut it all off (takes a bit longer, weigh your time against cost) and give it to your pets, birds or skinny relatives :) I keep an eye out for whoopsied meat and bring it home and freeze it til I need it.

Geeves 1980, I understand there is always oil added to fresh pasta/noodles otherwise they would just clag together; the dried ones are oil free. Why not used dry noodles, I buy some fab Blue Dragon wholewheat ones that are far nice than wholewheat Yuck Pasta; they only take a minute or two to cook. Soy sauce is free too if no-one has mentioned that.

Oh yes I totally agree. I have done the same with strawbs. Its sad I just cant enjoy oranges ( mandarins are ok) but they taste a lot more watery than they used to :( Im so pleased I got 4 mangos today on the market- totally ripe, I ate one as soon as I got home- very grateful, the supermarket ones are rock hard :( and so expensive! I have 2 pineapples I bought on the market nearly 2 weeks ago, Ill probably see if the are worth having by the end of the week! last time it had one from a supermarket I left it and even a week or so later it was solid stringy hard all the way through. I do think supermarket prices are bonkers and Im so pleased for the market otherwise I simply wouldnt be able to afford the volume that we are eating and would do a lot more green days or eat foods with silly sins in that are lurking at the back of the freezer, I need to graduate these in to save some money over the next few weeks.

    Oh God yes - yeuch!!!!

For those who didn't read about it, Cherie apparently said that Tony still excited her in every possible way.....why would we want to know that and why is it so hard to push the image from your mind once you've been told it :rotfl::rotfl:
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
