I worry about chilling and re-heating things!

    any advice appreciated, thanks!

I think as long as you chill it quickly and reheat it to a very high temperature, you're ok with just about anything :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

oooh guns'n'banjos they do look good, I'll look out for them.

I chill and re-heat everything, including chicken and rice; I always cook extra to eat the next day. I NEVER get an upset tum from it. I feel people have been made much too fearful and I don't know why (government conspiring with food retailers to make us throw good stuff out and buy fresh? )

As a training environmental health officer I can tell you there are some very good reasons why the directions at www.food.gov.uk are put in place. ;) Their advice is :

If you cook something, chill it quickly, then fridge it under 8 then reheat to 63c ( which is lukewarm IMO and quite unpalatable , most of us would reheat a chilli etc to) make sure the food is heated through then the food is likely to be safe. However, cooling it again leave the opportunity for more poisioning bacteria to grow that isnt dealt with in a further reheating.

ost people dont notice food poisioning that they get and its wildly underreported. However, if you are a baby, child, elderly or immunocompromised the risks are a lot bigger.

People died in America from eating undercooked burgers, children with kidney failure etc. from the ack in the box Ecoli outbreak, because burgers were not cooked to a high enough temperature to kill ecoli bacteria. Its scary stuff!

I could blather on all day, but if you reheat it to piping steaming hot youll be safe, if its a home made quorn tinned tomatom chili theres little risk in there in the first place! :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Turkey chilli doesn't work :(

    There's a reason it's made with beef!

Shame as I have 6 portions of it to get through:rotfl:I shall have to rename it spicey turkey and beans, it might make me like it more?!

Try adding some marmite (even if you don't like it as you don't taste it!), it makes it taste more meaty.

NAyone worried about reheating rice....as already mentioned, it'simportant to get it nice and hot when you heat it up but its also MEGA important to cool it down as quickly as possible. If I have rice leftover I run it under the cold tap in the seive I used to drain it until its totally cold. That also stops it from sticking together as a big gloopy mass! Oh and they say you shouldn't keep it for more than 24hrs but I've often cooked breakfast rice in a big batch then had it 3 or 4 days in a row (and I have it cold, not reheated!).

So, tonight I went for a 45min walk round the village, would like to increase it to an hour but despite living in a village there's nowhere decent to go for a walk without having to get in the car and drive somewhere! It's rubbish, I have to walk round the village and it's quite busy with traffic going to town.

Anyway, we had burgers for tea and I was good and had mine with no bun, had sw chips and a big salad, it was ok but in future I'll work it better so I can have a bun! I've just synned some extra milk and used it to make some rice pudding for my supper, it was yummy!!!

  • Quorn sausages have syns (I'm not sure how many cos I hate them) but the only Quorn products totally free are the mince and plain pieces. If you're going for Red days you can have 'real' meat and leave the Quorn for Green days.

Hi all, just catching up on the thread. What's all this about all quorn sausages having syns and the only free quorn stuff being the mince and plain pieces?
I have the plain quorn sausages all the time and they're free, plus lots of the other flavours are too (but not all). What's going on?!

Really? I think I have some marmite in the cupboard as OH likes it, I hate it! Would it work if I stirred some in before I reheated the next batch, maybe a teaspoon? Has it any syns?

I think it was just the overwhelming taste of turkey that spoils it, it has quite a strong flavour and just did not seem to marry into the sauce well like beef does.

Autumnflower asked about stir-fry this morning. I always make a huge one once a week and also stir-fry a few veg with my lunch when I'm hungry. We have ours with rice noodles or that Batchelors Golden Rice (yum!). I do buy a bag of stir-fry veg but just the cheapo 50p one from Asda which is mainly beansprouts with a few other bits thrown in. To that I add loads of sliced mushrooms, peppers (freezer), savoy cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli (cut off a bit each from veg planned for rest of week), mange tout and baby sweetcorn (I buy these specially but packs last at least 2 weeks) and spring onions. I make a marinade for my meat of ginger, soy, sliced chilli (freezer), garlic (jar) and sometimes 5 spice. if it's a bit dry I add a bit of stock. The marinade then acts as a super, syn-free stir-fry sauce.

I've had a rubbish day today, completely flexi!

B: NAS grapefruit, toast and beans, tea with HE milk
L: shoulder of lamb in red wine sauce with mash and veg plus huge cheeseboard
    D: punnet of raspberries
Snacks: Sauvignon Blanc (loads of it:o)

    Back on the wagon tomorrow.

Marmite is syn free. I often add a bit (tip of a teaspoon) to gravy, it's a bit like beef stock to taste so I can see it would give a meaty flavour.

It sounds tasty and of course any soup made up with lots of free foods is going to be great for weight loss. Sweet potato, potato and lentils are all Green day (or EE) food so to make this free on Red they'd have to be cut out. You could always add some lean meat or bacon to your soup to make it more substantial on a Red day QUOTE]
Thanks I will do that :D The soup is lovely, I highly recommend it to everyone.
Well I have had a red day today, green yesterday, and sorted my food diary for the week, and am alternating red and EE each day, with a green on Thursday, so I hope it makes a difference with my loss this week, will keep you all updated

Just a question about red though, is it ok to have 2 HEB's off the main Healthy extra list, for eg 4 wholemeal bread?? or is it a must that we have at least one HEB from the healthy extra original list ie potatos??? As today I had the following, and am panicking now that I shouldn't have had the HEB's I had
    Brek: 2 tangerines
Lunch: Yellow fish, 2 slices small w'meal bread (HEB), marg (2)
    Snacks: Strawberries
Tea: Roast chicken breast, brocolli, sprouts and carrots, gravy (2)
Snacks: alpen light 2nd 1/2 HEB?????
strawberries with a FF muller light
    Cadburys highlights (2)
HEA milk in tea, didn't fit a second one in
Would have had more syns but couldn't eat anything else :rotfl:

BTW love them quorn red onion burgers, they are delishhhhhh, nice with a slice of Low low cheese on a wholemeal small bap and a dollop of red sauce yummmm

    Morning all

Maman - your days menu may have been very flexi but it also sounded very nice!:D And I never thought to freeze chilli. Never add it to stirfrys because I only like a little bit and don't want to waste a whole chilli. Will try freezing!:T

Blackberry-rum - I did the frozen mullerlight last night!:T Was really yummy...so much so that my little boy nicked most of it! Must remember to do it once he's in bed in future!:T

Those quorn red onion burgers look nice. Must try them. I'm a bit of a red onion freak (I swear I eat it every day!).

Saturdays always a bit of an odd day here as am usually out and about a bit. So never sure what I'll be eating. So todays will probably look a little like this:

Breakfast: Omelette with mushrooms, tomato's and worcestor sauce
Lunch: 2 fish fingers in one slice of white bread (9 syns!) and a piece of cake (8 syns!!)
Dinner: Boys are having full fat cheesy lasagne. I'm not jealous..much!:rotfl:I'll prob have stir fry with marinated beef
    Snacks: fruit. Mullerlight
Exercise: Exercise bike still gathering dust.....I WILL get on it!!!!

Having hair cut today.....does hair weigh much???:rotfl::rotfl:

    Miss P
    xx
