Another loss for me this week. -1.5 lbs, yay. Together with the weight that I lost on my own before I started SW. I have now lost nearly a stone since Christmas.

This week the consultant was saying that you can only really lose weight when you want to do it for yourself. I have to say that I have been trying to lose weight for myself for the past 20 years without any real success. My motivation this time is my 6 year old son, who deserves a fit healthy mummy who can take him swimming and run round with him. This is much more effective than doing it for myself.

    Take care of yourselves.

Good morning all, well done to all those who WI yesterday and good luck to those WI today.

Had a bit of a fiasco as group last night, last week the consultant had the best week for weight loss ever, out of 89 people that weighed in only 6 put weight on (one of them was me)

It turned out the scales were incorrect and had to be calibrated over the weekend. Come WI yesterday the majority in group put weight on. People were really irrate, and I felt so sorry for the consultant as it was wasn't really her fault and she apologiesed as soon as group started.

Bit eventful, but it turned the group really flat, so I hope next week is better. Anyhow lost 1lb which takes me to 2 stone exactly. With so many people gaining last week and only a few of us losing I'm really going to go for it. I have got The Biggest Loser game for the Wii back from my sister so have no excuses.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.

  • Hi

Just wanted to know if anyone can tell me syns for the following:
Tesco healthy living low fat pork sausages
Caludron or quorn curries - I mean the ready made type, just wanted to get one rather than making one from scratch.

    Thanks
  • I've just found this recipe - do you think we could SW it? If the oil and butter were replaced by Frylite then only the flour would have to be synned. Any idea how many syns that would be?
    It looks yummy!

Cauliflower deserves a moment in the spotlight
Yotam Ottolenghi's cauliflower cake: Let's hear it for a vegetable that's almost as versatile as the potato. Photograph: Colin Campbell for the Guardian
This recipe is part of my ongoing campaign to give cauliflower some well-earned glory. It's one of the most magnificent of all vegetables and, to me, is as versatile as the treasured potato. Serve as a light supper alongside a makeshift salad of sliced cucumber, dill, mint, a little sugar, cider vinegar and rapeseed oil. Kept chilled, the cake will taste even better the next day. Serves four to six.
    1 medium cauliflower, 650g-700g
    1 large red onion, peeled
    100g olive oil
    ½ tsp finely chopped rosemary
    10 medium free-range eggs
    20g chopped basil
    180g plain flour
    2½ tsp baking powder
    ½ tsp ground turmeric
220g grated parmesan, or other mature cheese [see footnote]
    Salt and black pepper
    Melted butter, for greasing
2 tbsp black sesame seeds (or black onion seeds or plain sesame seeds)

Heat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4. Break the cauliflower into medium florets, put them in a pot with a teaspoon of salt, cover with water and simmer for 15 minutes, until quite soft. Strain, and leave in the colander for a few minutes to get rid of all the water.
While the cauliflower's cooking, prepare the batter. Cut a few 0.5cm rings off one end of the onion and set aside (these will go on top of the cake); coarsely chop the rest. Heat the oil in a pan and on a low heat saut! the chopped onion and rosemary for eight minutes. Remove from the heat, leave to cool down, add the eggs and basil, and whisk.
Sift the flour, baking powder and turmeric into a large bowl, and add the parmesan, one and a half teaspoons of salt and plenty of black pepper. Add the egg mix and whisk to eliminate lumps. Add the cauliflower and stir gently, trying to keep some florets whole.
Use baking parchment to line the bottom of a 24cm round cake tin with a loose base. Brush the sides with butter, put in the sesame seeds and toss them around so they stick to the sides. Tip in the cauliflower mix and arrange the onion rings on top.
Bake the cake in the centre of the oven for 45 minutes, until golden brown and set. Serve just warm or at room temperature.

The pampering sounds lovely dizzy. I've found that good hotels are OK for SW friendly breakfasts lately. In Paris recently, they had fresh graperfruit and orange segments plus the hot choices so (avoiding the bread and croissants) there was plenty to fill me up. Also, posh places tend not to serve huge portions at dinner so any naughties are kept to a minimum.
