I have a posh new badge!
7 years on MSE - can't believe it!
MCIMortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016
Mortgage No 2: £82, 595.61 (31.08.2019)
OP's to Date £8500
Renovation Fund:£511.39;
Nectar Points Balance: approx £30 (31.08.2019)0 -
Despite getting home later last night, we managed to achieve quite alot.
Couple of awkward calls completed.
Conservatory sorted - joint effort between DH and myself.
DH sorted out the increasing pile of catalogues and threw most of them in the recycling - also some other recycling from the porch and odd bits from the bags of stuff from the allotment.
3 bags of allotment stuff sorted out - rubbish thrown away, gloves for washing, odd pots and trays put in the tool store (between showers), seeds in my seed box.
Throws taken off chairs - washed and dried. Chairs moved out by DH and floor hoovered, sills wiped down (twice as the cat decided to put paw marks over the freshly wiped surfaces lol). Mopped by me and everything put back.
Photos and dimensions taken of the monstrosity of a fireplace we swapped from the lounge and we have been storing in the conservatory - DH will put on his work's digital selling board today (local authority, so lots of people to reach).
All in all a good night's work - we really felt that we achieved something. It's all ready now to put the temporary kitchen in when we are ready.
Flopped with a Pork Chop Dinner and a glass of vino. Pleased with what we achieved.
DHs electrician friend is coming tonight (then they are going out for a drink!) - so we can get some times and prices sorted for the electrics.
Small general shop from Herr A tonight, plus some extra mince and chicken to batch cook on Sunday. Also got my massage later - can't wait - feeling the effects of gardening, sorting stuff for the plant stall and doing the conservatory.
We seem to be heading towards the weekend at break-neck speed.

I like the idea of a veg patch except I don't like the idea of the work ha, nor do I have green fingers..... not a good combination I'll admit.

I have not always been successful with growing veg and it can be a bit hit and miss sometimes - but there are things that are really easy to grow like salad veg and you could do those in a couple of raised planters which would reduce the time and effort required

What a brilliant sort out! And well done on the badge
I'm quite lacking on the badge front, considering the number of my posts
My ambition for my garden edibles is to have as many perennials as possible - the sorrel is brilliant for that, it just keeps spreading around here. Mint. Chives. Lemon balm. Nettles for soup! My ambition is for kale, which I could still do this year if I bought plants, not seeds2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Wow, seven years, good going!
Loving the sound of those amazing chair bargains of the other week as well! Cracking :T
PS. If it gets desperate during lack-of-kitchen time, I heartily recommend a George Foreman grill! They are magica penny picker upper. KC You will have a badge soon when you retire...I have some sorrel, lemon balm, chives and mint too...but they are all in pots at the moment - everything is in a pot at the moment!
Thanks PM - I have a George Foreman Grill sitting in the cupboard - sounds like it will be making an appearance.
The badge is a strange thing - I joined here a year before we got married with the view to saving for the wedding. This site is so great whatever your financial goals and there are some fabulous people here too. I feel I can map things out and moan and groan without upsetting people as everyone has similar goals.

DHs electrician friend came last night...phew have we got a lot to do.
Firstly, the whole house (with the exception of perhaps the attic room and the conservatory) needs re-wiring...though what can be salvaged will be.
Secondly, it's best to get it all done in one go. Which I agree with really, but it is a pain.
Thirdly, there is a possibility that the flooring we have in the bedroom and the study could get wrecked taking it up to get the re-wire done - so could be additional cost there (I can see the 0% CC being used to stretch the budget!)
So, the timescale has changed slightly in that said electrician can't do the work till end July/beginning of August - this does work out quite well as I am off work then. DH thinks I should try to have my trip to Greece while the re-wire is being done (and he will stay at home) - so I am going to try to arrange this.
Kitchen delivery has been pushed out to the middle of August and I need to chat with my kitchen fitter to get him booked in for then - he may want to do the floor and the tiling before the kitchen arrives.
In the meantime, it feels like there is loads of time...BUT we have to have another major declutter and sort stuff out so there is less stuff to move about during the re-wire. I was going to do this anyway, but now there is a bit more of a sense of urgency. With so much paperwork to go through, I've got to be more focused.
List for this weekend:
- Washing and general tidying
- Move plants for plant stall
- Meeting with Police re incident against one of our volunteers
- Plant Stall Set up
- Bit of Charity paperwork - minutes and work on the bid
- Plan FB posts for charity
- Shredding and sorting out visible paperwork that's lying around - best to start with what's about rather than attacking boxes just yet.
- Gardening - if weather allows.
Think I will be coming to work for a rest on Monday!
Nothing more on the money front at the moment - except a over whelming need to locate some more...
Have a good weekend all.

Yep, I concur with Karma
Sounds like you've got an epic summer lined up - at least it'll be all over and done with soon :Ta penny picker upper.
