Glad you are feeling better LP...

DH can tile. But there are so many other jobs for him to do, we are going to get my friend's husband to do it all. Just got to go and look at tiles now!

Not much on the money front - signature updated with mortgage and nectar figures.

Bit more done on a new bid for funding for our charity today - got quite a programme of bids to get in before the end of September.

Off to visit a friend tomorrow (an hour's drive) - I'm going to him this time instead of him to me as his car is in the garage.

Then we are off to Wales on Sunday to see more friends - so busy weekend (DH will drive).

Got to try and get a little bit of gardening and the chores done, plus pay the credit card bill.

Herr A shop done last night. Mr T tonight (only a couple of things on the list).

Back to yoga tonight - really looking forward to it.

    Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

£9.31 into kitchen fund via £co
£78.16 out to finish paying deposit on kitchen (via credit card)

DH has arranged for his electrician friend to come down on Thursday for a discussion regarding electrics, re-wiring etc... When he gives us an indication when he can do the work I can then get all the other bits sorted.

We are very aware that this is going to take longer than anticipated. I will have to move the delivery of the kitchen. Once the kitchen is ripped out we will know what we have got to do to get it to the stage to actually fit the kitchen...

My friend I visited on Saturday has loaned us an electric hot plate with 2 rings that you just plug in...that will be easier than using the gas burner. We are planning to get a little kitchen area set up in the conservatory with fridge, freezer, microwave, hotplate and a cupboard for some essentials - at least we have talked about it.

Going to get some batch cooking done next weekend, so we have some meals sorted in the freezer.

Tired after the weekend, but determined to get a bit of gardening done tonight if the weather allows.

Fish & Pasta planned for tea.

    Hope everyone is well.

    Off to update signature...

Trying to carry on with life when there's building work around you ... so difficult! Its a really good idea to get some meals cooked in advance, good luck with it all.

Thanks KC - I remember when we had the kitchen done at the old house. We had a microwave roast dinner using Marks & Sparks chicken and vegetables - was delish and very welcome - but hugely expensive!

Going to TRY to limit the amount of times we go out or have takeaway...we shall see - I anticipate one treat a week - cheap and cheerful.

Even though it rained a bit last night - I managed to get the first section of my veg patch dug over, some compost dug in and 4 courgettes planted!

Potted some leggy busy lizzys into 7" pots bush out over the next couple of weeks - should be ok - then we can sell when the charity plant stall 'goes on tour'. The not so leggy ones have been planted in 6 cells and should be ready in a couple of weeks. Also got all the plants I need to transport today ready and put by the back gate. I can get on with my own gardening again later in the week.

Got a donation of pots from our friends who have the plant nursery - I think we might be alright for a while - there are about 1700 in total (perhaps a few more - just approximately).

Bit of charity work to do at lunch time.

Nothing new on the money front.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • How big a veg patch have you got going on MCI?

Does it take up much of your time maintaining it?

It's not that big (would have to measure it as I am not good at estimates) - much, much smaller than the allotment i was trying to maintain

I've only just started as it's our new garden in our new house :), so I can't really say - but I would imagine that when it's all dug over and planted it may take a couple/three hours a week to weed / water etc... a bit every day is best if possible. The busy months are May and June and you will find you will spend more time then as it's planting season and then it should be fairly plain sailing till it's time to dig over before the winter.

I just want to finish getting mine dug and planted - and there are a few hours work in that (especially as the ground hasn't been exposed for many years due to it being covered up with plastic and gravel dumped on the top).

Hope this helps. Will get the size for you later.

Is it a completely new house, MCI? Is the soil okay if so? I hear a lot about how awful the soil is for brand new homes, eek.

No, it's a 1920s house - the neighbour said the soil is good - but the patch we have dug over is a bit sandy as they had buried loads of stuff in there. I will work on improving it.

Raining last night so didn't get the size...
