I hate having full meals at that time of night! Tho I like snacking at that time, I must say :D

Sounds like a good job the rental is so close. Take it easy!
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • I am really glad the rental is so close...

DH had gone down there today to do a bit. He needs some wood to do a couple of the jobs, so I will take him down his garage (down his mum's) when I get home.

Looks like his car isn't getting done till Sunday. So hopefully the rental jobs can get sorted in the meantime. But it means he's not so independent and he hates that.

Spoke to him earlier and he didn't sound too bad (but I had left him bacon & eggs in the fridge for a sandwich this morning).

Healthy lunch of LO veggies and noodles sprinkled with sesame seeds for me :)

Tuna Steaks, Jacket Potato & Salad planned for tea.

So glad it's Friday, but I just know that the weekend is going to be manic.

Looking forward to yoga tonight as I have a few aches and pains that need stretching out.

At least all the shopping is done and I can go straight home tonight (or at least to do jobs with DH).

Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend whatever you are doing.

  • One step forward and 3 steps back...

Rental was supposed to be all finished but we have a roof leak:(

Hoping that the weather will be dry tomorrow so DH can fix it. Would have been able to fix yesterday, but need his car to transport ladders etc...

His car is now fixed - but it needs a new battery as when the alternator went it took the battery with it.

New part has been checked, but he needs to get a battery today - fingers crossed for a car that goes tomorrow.

I will be so glad to get a restful weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed for an end to the rental problems and DH having his car back.

  • Been to get Roof Seal stuff for DH. We are praying for good weather tomorrow. Another £16.11.

I told him I wasn't comfortable about him going on the roof without someone there (if not on the roof, then at least looking out for him).

    In other news:

Dinner tonight will be Turkey Stroganoff - one of my favourite meals, but one that we can't have so often now because of DHs lactose intolerance - he's ok with one off dishes now and then.

Need to get money transferred from our joint savings to pay for electrics and other bits and bobs for the rental - this has come out of my money so far, and now needs replenishing.

    Charity meeting tonight.

Really got that Monday feeling today - don't mean to be down, but just getting it off my chest - hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

Good point about having a buddy there while you're doing something so potentially dangerous ... I hope he agrees to it.

You're facing a lot of issues - I'm not surprised you feel down sometimes. Yes, they're by choice - the property, the charity work - but there's a part of our brains that doesn't seem to know that :D Being active, even walking briskly, seems to help, but its not easy. Hope it passes soon.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • KC that's very true and thank you for your support. Think I might just have a quick walk after I've eaten - the sun is even shining today!

He had decided to do the roof on Wednesday because the weather looked better (from a forecast point of view) - so off to work he went this morning.

Only to ring me to say that his car had broken down again....but it was just a loose pipe which has now been fixed and so we are back in business.

He also decided that as the weather is fine and calm today that he would leave work early (ie 10.35 early!) and toddle off and do the roof anyway.

So nervous about him being on the roof - but he said he would be ok (he is a Health & Safety Officer after all) - ladders attached ok, but that's not what I'm worried about really. Anyway, can't stop him as I'm at work! Hope he might have called his mum to go down with him...

Hoping he'll give me a call in a bit (I don't want to call him in case he's on the roof!)

To keep my mind off it - going to have lunch! Scrambled egg with mushrooms, spring onions and cherry tomatoes.

Small amount of shopping to do on the way home, then dropping in at Mum's to pick up the dehumidifier that I bought last year when we were doing her decorating - should help to dry the wall where the leak is at the rental. Not going to say when I hope it will be all finished due to the fact that it will probably go pear-shaped!

Pesto Salmon and Pasta on the menu for tonight. Won't hold my breath as to what time that will be served.

May have to postpone having pancakes till we are sorted (original plan was actually to have some tonight even though DH isn't keen).

    Take care all.

  • Roof all done as far as it can. No obvious signs of where the leak was coming from. So DH has gobbed up everything he thinks with bitumen paint and compo and we are keeping our fingers crossed.

I am of the opinion that we should just go ahead with everything and if the roof needs a more substantial repair - we will have to do that once the tenants are in.

Dehumidifier installed and we will paint tonight and finish off the cleaning. Just keeping our fingers crossed for the roof.

To cheer us up, we are having a bit of a Chinese New Year celebration tonight and I have Red Cooked Beef in the slow cooker. DH said he wants to make sure that we are not too late back from the rental as he wants me to make Prawn Toast! Prawns are in the fridge defrosting and I think we will make the effort as it is one of our favourites - so must hot foot it home tonight so we can get things done and we can settle down to a nice meal.

Credit card bill has arrived - still can't find the one before last - but it's coming back to me what might be on there - payments will be made before the end of the month.

Still need to arrange for money from the joint account to be transferred - I have the costs of the electrics and the anti-virus that have come out of my account and that needs to be topped back up.

Annual Report for the charity needs to be done this week too in time for our AGM on Monday - but I think this is going to be a Saturday job.

On the money front - still got some cash back outstanding from October!!!! Wish it would hurry up! (Not that it's much - just think I am impatient on the money front at the moment.)

Wishing everyone a Happy Hump Day!

  • Got to go and sort the rental out tonight in any case.

The lease company is going in tomorrow to do an inventory and we need to clear paint tins etc... and although my vacuum really needs replacing, not a good idea to leave it there:rotfl:

DH said that by this time next week it should all be sorted (he's had a call off the lease company). I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed.

Getting an inventory established is a good step along the way - there'll be tenants in there really soon, I hope :)

Knowing that this is the sort of work thats needed for a rental property, I decided to go for a holiday apartment in France, which is what I'm just finishing off paying (about £14k still to go). Believe me, it was the worst financial decision I ever made - you're doing the right thing long term with this rental, I bet you are.

    Good luck tonight!
