  • What a week!

Went up North at the weekend where there was quite alot of snow. Saw friends which was very pleasing, including one who has cancer. Can't believe how she puts such as brave face on the fact that she's not going to get better - such an inspiration.

Was quacked after all the driving - not used to long distances on my own - luckily dinner was waiting for me down MILs when I returned at 8pm on Sunday.

Been quite good sticking to the meal plan...

Bought quite a few items of clothing - I'm allowed - haven't bought any for ages (plus got some vouchers towards them). Got a good few items of warm clothing, which is a must at the moment.

Had a free winter check on my car before I went up North. Was expecting to pay something, but my garage didn't charge me - bonus!

Rental News! DH has rung me today to tell me that the void section have finally got the keys to do the gas and electric checks. It's only taken 2.5 weeks to get that sorted. Once it's signed over it will be sign - but they are really dragging their heels - got a feeling the tenants won't be in till the beginning of Feb! We shall see.

New regime for 'most' days of the week will be started. Eating a little earlier (aiming for 8pm) and then DH is going to help me wash up the same evening before we settle down. I know this seems like a thing we should be doing already, but sometimes we don't get in till late, eat late and then I'm quacked and don't get the clearing up done - then it builds up over a couple of days and I get so disheartened - I really want a small dishwasher which I would only probably put on every couple of days - but it would instantly tidy the kitchen up. However, this won't happen until we re-do the kitchen. I think it's great that DH is on board - but it went pear-shaped last night as he was helping fix his brothers' car and didn't get home till 9.45pm!!!!! We ate at 10pm (was a quick stir fry) and then the washing up got left. We will start tonight!

Tonight's tea is salmon & new potatoes with veggies.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Look forward to catching up with the diaries.

  • :(Failed Gas & Electric Checks:(

Fuse board needs replacing and they are currently checking out the earth bonding.

We have a gas leak! Don't know how this happened as when it was tested in November it was ok. Now the boiler is capped off. But need the heating on so the pipes don't freeze or we are not covered on the insurance - just in time for the cold weather

Hopefully can be sorted fairly quickly...

  • Good news and bad news...

Good news is that the electrics will be sorted by DHs mates, week on Saturday.

Bad news is - Gas Leak...not sure where it's coming from and there isn't enough gas getting to the boiler (though that could have something to do with the leak). I really hope we don't have to rip all the floors up - DH has already had to take some of the kitchen apart - all his hard work - I feel so bad for him.

There may also be a roof leak!!! OMG!!!

Just when we thought we were getting somewhere it's all coming down around our ears...

I just hope that a plan will be in place soon and that the tenants will hold on till the work is done.

    In other news:

£18 added to the house fund for 2 collectable toy cars DH has sold.

Brisket in the Slow Cooker for tonight's tea. There will be leftovers to be frozen, so Beef & Mushroom Pie will be on the menu plan somewhere in the not too distant future.

    Feeling a bit :(

Oh no, no wonder you are feeling :(

    It must be incredibly frustrating.

I hope it can be resolved without too much aggro

  • Thanks Girls...

    Certainly is frustrating.

    We have a plan though...

    - Water turned off to minimise damage if any pipes freeze.
    - DH getting a second opinion on the gas - we know there is a leak - but the gas fitter said all the pipe up to the boiler needed to be changed - so DH is getting one of the Gas Supervisors he trusts to come down and have a look. We will get them to do the work anyway...just want to minimise disruption and cost.
    - Electrics being done a week on Saturday...

DH was so down in the mouth - it's really heart breaking to see - wish I could do more, but with these sort of things it's out of your hands unless you are qualified.

  • The extra frustration is that it will be longer now before we can do anything on new house or make any OPs :(

Thinking about other things trying to cheer me up...

SC Beef was yummy last night. Used a rub of paprika, crushed coriander seeds, garlic powder, thyme, chilli flakes and pink salt. Leftovers duly frozen and DH is looking forward to Beef & Mushroom Pie sometime soon.

It's my colleagues' 25 year at work anniversary today. He has brought danish pastries and pain au chocolat - we are also all going out for a curry straight after work which will be lovely (and if we are lucky - the boss will pay :T)

DH will be fending for himself tonight - but I was thinking to cheer him up I would do HM cheeseless pizzas for him tomorrow evening after I come back from yoga.

    Looking after the £

Menu plan for Feb to be done next week after freezer inventory is completed - shouldn't have to buy much meat (if any) still got loads. Fridge is practically empty - will have to do double whammy shopping on the way home tomorrow of Herr A and Mr T - won't be too late home tonight - but too late to go to Herr A shopping.

Tax Returns are on the list this weekend together with our Toy Fair on Sunday.

Will have a little catch up with diaries at lunchtime.

  • Meal and company was good (Boss did pay - so not one penny spent last night).

Parcel posted to friend who bought 2 of DHs collectable cars - I paid because I put something in there - so the full £18 went to the House Fund.

DH got very excited about the HM Pizzas - so we are having those tonight (knew food would cheer him up).

Double whammy shopping list for double whammy shopping trip made - not many items on the list so should be fairly quick. Need to get petrol on the way home too.

Glad it's Friday, but busy weekend ahead.

My Tax Return is done - £11.60 owed - paid (don't know how it happened, but heyho).

Have changed address details on B00ts Adv Card, Mr W Card (and picked my 20% off offers - don't go in there much but will save when I do now), House Fund Account, Joint Savings Account. Just got my life insurance to change now and I think I'm all done. I keep thinking that if I get all the addresses changed then the rental will be occupied sooner rather than later (wishful thinking).

Getting set for the Toy Fair tomorrow - apparently only on till 2pm - so don't have to take too much in the way of food.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend - was glad to get back to yoga last night...

Was rather a wrench getting up early on a Sunday morning to do the toy fair - but once we were there it was fine. In fact it's quite enjoyable chatting to people and working as a team with DH.

    Did quite well too.
    £354.50 made
    £40.00 expenses repaid to DH
£4.50 in change added to various pots
£310.00 ready to pay in and add to the House Fund tomorrow

The expenses were the Stall fee & a couple of things he bought to sell (and they did making a nice profit).

It's amazing how much is being made from DH private collection (with one or two of my bits thrown in). Still got a lot to be sold.

Was glad to get home - had something to eat and a little nap!

    Early to bed tonight.
