Wow ... just popping along to see what's what - you've got a lot on your plate right now with that 2nd property, haven't you - but I think you've got it in time to avoid the new charges that are coming in, is that right? Should be good.

Interesting to know about the magazines too - nearly all mine are gone, to various homes, but I never thought of the library for really old ones. I have some convention booklets left - including the very first science fiction convention I went to, at the Albert Hall in 1995, and on an offchance I checked ebay - there's one on other for £12 plus postage! I think I'll hold on to that one for sales!

    Cheers for popping by KC

I was lucky with the library as they have an Astronomy Club that runs from it - so they were interested.

Wasn't quite as lucky with my Good Food Magazines - 22 years worth went in the recycling!!!

£12 a piece for convention booklets sounds good - if you can part with it - I know that I would be struggling...

  • Paperwork done (or most of it!)

Charity Wage Slips: Done and online submissions done.

    January shaped up as follows:
    - £46.16 under budget on the groceries - moved to House Fund
    - £20.00 over budget for gas and electric - £20 taken from stash reserved in the summer

Have checked the balance for the furniture we bought on 0% and we owe £445 - which I will pay out of my bonus when their web-site is working properly - I know it's a 0% till August, but I just want to get it cleared then there is no temptation to spend the money on anything else - the furniture will be ours then!!

N3xt bill paid - partly by voucher from MIL I had for Christmas. Rest of my warm clothes were bought on the CC so will pay that off when it comes later in the month.

Realised that I still have a £20 N3w L00k Voucher and a £25 J0hn L3wis voucher to spend - must have a look at what I can get over the next month.

DH has gone off the drill some holes down the rental for the earth bonding - hopefully he will come back a little less stressed.

Off to finish my chores now...

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday.

I think JL vouchers last for ever? My sister gets a few from the parents of the children she teaches, and I think she hangs on and puts them together for a bigger item she wants/needs? Could be worth investigating :)

The convention booklets interesting - after all, I've had my paws on it for over 20 years now - the thing that enables me to let go precious stuff like that is my scanner :o so I've scanned it (except the big promo boring shots, which are very generic) and it can go to the highest bidder :D

Loving the budget - you did well there!

Thanks KC - will investigate the JL voucher situation - not sure what I want to buy with it really, so I think it would be much better if I could wait until I need something and put it towards it (especially with the kitchen refurb possibly on the menu for this year - fingers crossed).

Really should use my scanner more - would really reduce the amount of paper I have knocking about.

    - £2.80 added to House Fund from interest from our current account.
    - Money shuffle done.
    - Doesn't look like they have taken my payment for the furniture - but will wait a little while longer before doing it again.

    Looking after the £s
Tonight we are going to investigate fleabay! at DHs request. (He won't do it without me). I have printed off the postage costs and parcel sizes to help.

I have a few items that might be very well positioned to sell this month, so would be a good time to give it a go anyway.

Chicken Pasties for tea tonight (HM ones my friend made before Christmas and I froze) - wanted to keep it simple and we might actually eat at a reasonable time!

Re JL Gift Card - 24 months validity from last activity - and that includes a balance enquiry - phew - got another 12 months to spend (at least).

  • Best laid plans and all that.

DH was so fed up he wanted to go for a cheap and cheerful. So our fleabay adventure was purely a discussion. I am going to put some stuff on later - with or without him! :rotfl:

DH has had today off work to help with the electrics down the rental and to start putting things back together (hopefully).

Chicken Pasties have been relegated to tonight's tea.

    No real other news.

    Hope everyone is well.

  • I'm going to stop making plans I think...:rotfl:

DH rang me about 4pm yesterday to say that all the electrics had been done and that we now have an electric certificate :j:j:j

Now starts the job of putting the house back together (which is probably not as bad as it sounds).

So last night (instead of fleabay) I went down the rental and cleared out all the rubbish, bits of plaster, brick dust etc... DH started work on putting the floorboards in the spare room back and putting the cupboard back round the new fuse board.

We then went to Mum's (with a big light) and investigated the shed for the painting stuff needed for the decorating touch ups.

By the time we had got back and I'd cooked tea - neither of us had the energy or inclination to look at fleabay!

DH is going to have Friday off to finish all the jobs at the rental and then I can go in and clean through again (lots of dust to clear up). By hook or by crook we will be done by the end of the weekend and then hopefully next week the tenants will be able to move in.

It's difficult when you can't just drop everything and get things sorted - but that's the way it is and we just have to get on with it.

Going to get some of my shopping done tonight and the rest tomorrow, so if DH needs my help Friday evening, I can help out for an hour before going to Yoga - this may not be needed yet - but want to make myself available.

Will really be glad to get it all sorted as since the gas & electric trouble we have been snipping at each other again - for a couple who don't argue this is most distressing. We just need to pull together to get it finished and then we can get back to normal.

It has probably been one of the most stressful things we have done (and the most frustrating where we have had crossed wires etc..) more stressful than getting married or our Dad's passing away - I think the timescale and the fact that there hasn't been that much I have been able to help with makes me feel frustrated and DH stressed because it's mainly been down to him.

However, I've had to keep him on his toes about keeping up to speed with the people we will be leasing the property to - it's more my thing really, but as he works there it's easier for him to do.

Anyway, the end is in sight (again) - dare I say that?????

    We shall see.

Nice comforting meal of posh sausage & mash planned for tonight.

And as for fleabay - who knows.....

Happy hump day everyone - is it really the middle of the week already???

Its incredibly stressful, to do the work when you've still got your actual job. As long as you're talking to one another about it, and reminding yourselves that all the stuff you're doing is upping your profit percentages, you can't go far wrong :)

Enjoy the sausage and mash! I love comfort food (veggie version, at any rate :) ).
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Yes, need to keep thinking of the money.

    Another aaagggghhhhh moment!
DH car has broken down - completely dead - alternator nearly set on fire (was smoking nicely). A A came out and towed him to his mum's.

luckily he knows a mechanic - but looks like he will be without a car for a few days - just right for finishing the rental off - I think not!

I've offered him my car - but he won't take it. We will have to see how it goes.

Currently waiting for him to come back from his mum's - he and his mechanic friend have just gone down there to get part numbers and see what tools they need.

    Another late night eating.:(

  • :eek:Ate at 10.30pm:eek:

DHs car will be fixed over the next few days.

Fortunately the rental is only 10 mins walk from home, so as long as I can drop his tools off we should be fine.

Probably means we are going to loose our weekend again - but as long as the car gets fixed and rental gets sorted it's all good - was fed up last night, but feeling a bit better today.

Work is taking my mind off it!!!

Quick and easy tea of burgers tonight as DH is going out (borrowing my car). He's having beef and I'm having veg (unless I decide to have fish fingers instead :) :rotfl: )

Friday tomorrow and really looking forward to my yoga session.
