  • Hi all

Was feeling really bad that i havent posted on here for ages but I see its been very quiet anyway!!

Hope everyone is ok and managing to keep up the good work, Jo Jo so sorry to hear about your cat, I still think about my old cat treacle who died 7 years ago, I do miss him, hope you are bearing up

Well, I have been really good on the no-spending front mainly cos I have been waiting for my new bank card, I notified them of my name change (when I got married) back in November last year and although they changed it on the system I never received my new cash card, I rang and they said they would send me one and that I would not be able to use my old one untill then, so I waited patiently and seven days later I received a shiny new card in my maiden name (exactly the same as my old one) !!!! In the words of Victor Meldrew 'I dont believe it!!'

Anyway, it meant seven days I couldnt get at my overdraft:D and it will be another seven when I ring up to tell them no doubt!

    Hi everyone!

Well, I do feel a little more positive than I did this time last week. I went around the houses in all directions fighting the absolute NEED to go skiing, but instead I have thrown more ebay profits made off the debts and it gave me so much satisfaction to do, that it lifted my mood somewhat and made me see that I am doing the right thing, and although it is hard, it will be worth it in the end.

I really want to move house in the next few years but with my level of debt and the need for a self cert mortgage as I am self employed, as things stand at the moment I could not buy a small shoe box. I certainly could not buy my current house, in my current situation, (IYKWIM). But, I worked out that when I have paid of my debt, I can afford to look at something very very reasonable indeed.

So the price to pay for not being able to go skiing, is to be able to move house sooner. To cheer me up, I spent a lovely evening looking at the type of house on the estate agents' websites that I would be able to afford, post debt free date!

So, still dreaming. Reality means that we may well stay here for ever, but at least I am more focused again and not so peed off that I am not going skiing.

On the bank charges front, I got £265 refunded (full amount) on one of my credit cards on the basis of my first letter, so that was good. I have 3 accounts with Barclays, 2 with huge charge claims, one with a much smaller one (£90). Barclays have refunded the small one without question but their offer on the other 2 has been rejected so I filed my claim online yesterday. Felt quite sick doing so, but determined to see it through to the end.

I am going to dip into the matched betting world over the next week. Have looked at the instructions a million times, downloaded the spreadsheet and am familiarising myself with the appropriate websites. However I am not going to make a start until I am absolutely sure I know what I am doing.....watch this space:rolleyes:

Have a good weekend everyone and stay strong!

JoJo - any news on the remortgage yet?

  • Hi Everyone

Hypno - I have been offered a new mortgage deal through a link on this site which would save me around £90 a month. I thought I'd do a bit of ringing around and see if I can beat it - A&L have a fixed term for 5 years which would save me around £200 but I'm not sure they would lend to someone on a DMP - Going to call them tomorrow as I have my curent account with them now. Still not sure about taking up deal - it would clear my secured loan and so I could then put any savings to the DMP - but it all seems a bit futile at the moment my DMP is vast and if I'm not feeling particulalry positive it makes me wonder if I will ever get there.

Got a letter yesterday from Ikea saying they were going for default notice - its the first contact I've had with them even though they've been accepting payments from CCCS - I assumed they were happy with the arrangement - it appears they aren't. I know it's their right to go ahead with such measures, but you'd think as I'm making regular payments they would hang fire. I hate seeing the bitter truth in black and white so to speak.

Not much else to report - My car insurance is up in 2 weeks so I shall be hunting around for a better deal somewhere and see if I can shave a little more off my monthly bills.

Target for this week - list 10 things on Ebay.

  • I was going to ask... does anyone still need a partner? or are you going to use this as a joint chat?

I would like someone to chat to - OH and I are starting a DMP together but when we start talking about it, it goes on for hours about the nitty-gritty.

  • Hi everyone & welcome to wonawin & newgirl. Not much happening with me, creditors all gone quiet, msechallenge also gone quiet, nothing left selling on ebay & 1 sale only this week on Amazon. Kids off for half term next week but I have to work, boo hiss!

Have asked CCCS for budget review, getting the ppi cancelled means I can increase my DMP payment. My debt free date is now 10 1/2 years away. (Does anyone else spend ages putting in different figures on the cccs website to calculate how much it will bring your debt free date forward?)

I am not on a DMP but do spend many happy hours playing with the snowball calculator to see what difference the £8.76 I have made this week on ebay will make to my DFD and to see if it is worth trying to make £8.76 every week!

As far as pastimes go, at least it does not cost anything:cool:

  • Just a quick update - Had a letter from abbey cc saying that my card was frozen until my financial situation improved - seemed quite nice about the whole thing! Also had a call from India from Sainsbury's Visa asking where my payment was, told them about DMP and they said they would make a note on my file. Had another call about an hour later from same lot - so that note worked well!! lol!

Started DMP in Oct, Sainsburys have only just got the message. Sent a letter of compaint after I got 5 phone calls in an hour!!!!

Only read a few bits of this thread but you all seem happy with Dmp, I started mine in Oct but am having trouble with EGG, they want to put a charge on our house like a secured loan i suppose, it is in OH name and he refuses to talk to anyone so could have P***ed them off. Our DFD is in 9yrs so not as long as others on this thread but owe them 12k. Any advice?????
Why didn't someone kick me up the backside earlier:mad:

  • I reckon that creditors have so many bad debtors they cant harass them all, so they give them all a turn each, move on to the next set, go quiet for a while, then have another go!

Regarding Egg, we owe them a good bit more than that ( loan plus 2 credit cards) & our dmp was for 13/14 years to start with & they accepted that for the loan. They did ask for additional paperwork, proof of pension & insurance etc. We have no equity in the house, so maybe thats why no charging order. They also wrote to say they were turning the CC debts over to a DCA only a month or two into DMP, but DCA has not been in touch.
