First Direct - (merged)

  • Hi there - my first posting! I have been pushed all the way by First Direct and I have just filed my questionaire with the courts, and I am now just waiting for a date to go to court (yes, they have filed their side as well - although 3 days late?!) Everyone seems confident that First Direct will back out beforehand but you never know! I am willing to go to court and will put a strong case together, but what i am trying to do is gather facts, figures and some info. Firstly - I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has successfully claimed from FIRST DIRECT would contact me - not to stand up in court and name you but just to see if they do pay up! I would also like to know any facts about FD such as; how many branches in UK, how much their turnover last year was, how much profit, how much aprox have they paid out, how many customers they have - all this would really help me in putting my case together. Or if you have any links to help that would be good. Thank you all in advance and I really appreciate your time in reading this thread and your replys. Thanks

I have won my case against FD, however did not even need to go to court. They paid up straight away - no hassle. Won £1620. Were very good. It was a closed account, but they arranged for us to withdraw the money from a local branch at out convenience. So I'm sure they will pay up!
  • Hi, fairly new on here and just want to ask a question.
Sent a claim letter to FD at start of July, claiming £560 +interest (£640ish in total), have had letter back offering £460. Since the initial claim letter i have been charged another £70 penalty fee. Can i add this to the initial claim or do i have to send a seperate claim for this amount.
Also, do you think i should hold out for the full £560 instead of accepting the £460 offer?

Just contact them - they are pretty good at making offers! explain the additional charges and tell them you would like this included in their offer.

I've been trying to track a parcel for the past week which has disappeared somewhere in DHL's midst. I've finally found out that it was sent by First Direct so it can only be my dads bank statements. He will be furious when he finds out.

DHL have been extremely useful in telling me that First Direct have to contact them.

Does anyone have a direct contact for First Direct as I can see it being a bit of hassle if I contact them on the regular customer service line.

I have successfully claimed back 4.5k for my brother over the past few months. We're still waiting for the last £1000 but it should be on it's way.

I am about to start the process for my dad who reckons he has around £800 in charges with First Direct.

Once the statements arrive, what would happen if I skipped the first 2 letters and submitted an MCOL claim against First Direct as I know banks are not taking claims past stage 1?

Is this possible or does the process need to be followed?

Would the claim be frozen until the result of the hearing?
  • Ok, you still need to follow the same process as if they had not stopped dealing with them because your case could be thrown out as unreasonable for not giving the banks the time to respond to it. THe cases submitted through MCOL will continue as normal. If they apply to have the case set aside, then you can apply to remove that set aside and continue with the claim.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

"Good" very clear statement of the current status of claims with FD First Direct Firstdirect. Most of this will apply to all other banks, I suspect. However you are advised to double check with them for their own differences in current status.

First Direct Test case - Overdraft charges – Update

Basically, everything is on hold. They won't process any more claims, they will apply to the courts for a stay of proceedings and they expect the OFT case to take at least a year.........

Sorry about the repost from the other thread, but wasn't quite sure where to stick it!
  • I have just phone FD to get bank statements for the last 6 years after being inspired by reading the posts. My account was passed to Metropolitan Dec 04 after I did not keep up repayments on CC and OD (due to being seriously ill and not being able to work) Since then I have paid Metropolitan. They have frozen all interest on my account and so I wanted to get my statements to see if it was worth claiming as if they asked me to repay the interest on the account it may not be worth it.I spoke to a very polite lady who asked if I needed them to reclaim bank charges. I said it was. She put me on hold while she got further advise from her supervisor and came back saying because the account had been passed to Metropolitan they have no record of the bank charges previous to that. Has anybody else had this problem. I'm gutted i chucked away all my statements last year now.
