First Direct - (merged)

Following Martin's guide, and using the template letter, I now have a list of my overdraft charges from 21/05/2002 - 22/11/2005.
In their reply, the bank stated "Fees advised to you, and accepted by you, at the time the service was provided..." Seems like a counter claim/defense?
Am I correct in thinking I should claim NOW because some of the charges date back to 2002 (5 years+)?
Can anyone report experience with First Direct? Should I reclaim
with interest or without?
I've been a customer of HSBC since 1986, and joined First Direct when it first started. I'm planning to open a new account at an 'ethical bank' (probably Co-Op/Smile)
Apologies if I'm asking what seems obvious, but I have difficulties with paperwork.
Thank you all (and a big thanks to Martin Lewis)0 -
Which banks can you still claim charges from? Is first direct one? I didn't see them listed.0

Bit of a long story this, but please bear with me.
Had an account with First Direct, screwed up big style and ended up with a HUGE overdraft (90% of it was charges). They gave me a loan to pay it back (with payments higher than I could afford). I defaulted on the loan, so they closed my account and it got passed to a debt collection agency (Robinson Way). Robinson Way were very unhelpful, setting my payments higher than the repayments on the loan were in the first place. I pointed out that if I struggled with the loan repayments in the first place, then how could I afford more. They were very critical, and told me basically that it was tough. I struggled, and again defaulted, and they passed me on to County Court. A CCJ was entered against me.
I got a settlement figure and I've now paid this, even though they didn't take that much less than I owed.
Now what I'd like to know is - Can I claim the bank charges from First Direct (over £1500 worth) or not?
Also, is it worth getting them in now, or are we best to wait til the OFT results?
Thanks for your time.

Hiya,
Has anyone had their bank account closed after reclaiming their charges?
DH is worried that we'll be turfed out of First Direct!
Thanks.0 -
Hi everyone, well I've just printed off my first letter to First Direct.
Hopefully I'll be back on here with another good news story.
I only heard about all this yesterday!

Hello, my wife went over our agreeed overdraft this week by £10.
for this the Halifax have sent us a letter letting us they will charge her £35 PLUS £28 for an "unauthorised overdraft charge".
What would you recommend we do about this?
This is our 2nd account, the other gets the wages paid in, but it gets regular money transfers to it.0 -
Is this the 1st time its happened? As sometimes banks refund straight away as like a gesture of good will. My bank did this, but stressed they would only do it the once.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

Hello, yes thisis the first time.
And your right, I rang them up, said I'm not happy about paying £60 for going over by a tenner.
They have removed the charges.
Good, I didn't fancy having to setup all the direct debits on a new account when I closed this one.. .lol
Cheers,

Hello,
I might be on the wrong board for this so sorry.
I have just received a fee of £50 from First Direct for going over my overdraft by £20 for 2 days!! when I said spoke to them to try and get it removed they said it was part of the terms and conditions of the account. Is there anyway I can claim this back ?
