Hello,
I might be on the wrong board for this so sorry.
I have just received a fee of £50 from First Direct for going over my overdraft by £20 for 2 days!! when I said spoke to them to try and get it removed they said it was part of the terms and conditions of the account. Is there anyway I can claim this back ?
Lee
except they charged me a wopping £150!!! Now I would love to claim all the charges back but I am too scared in case they close my account or lessen my overdraft - I would then be in the ****
If the banks lose as sure as eggs is eggs they'll get it back.0 -

depressed, you could always switch to A&L who will match your current overdraft and give you interest-free for a year.0

I would send a cheque in case, but it seems that they've returned it on nearly every request, and yes, you'll still be able to claim on that account - 6 years is correct.
I have a question... Has everyone else noticed that FD are now calling their overdraft charges 'arrangement fees' and will this make a difference when trying to claim them back?
Thanks.0 -

I still bank with them, but I got the last 6 years of fees (not statements) for free.Biggest debt, £48,000.
Lightbulb moment - Feb 08.
Current debt June 09 = £17,000, I have sold property to reduce that by so much. Now paying monthly.
Plan to be debt-free May 2012.:D0 -
Well, I bit the bullet and wrote to FD to get my charges for the last 6 years. Amounted to £650. So I sent off the letter (I have also asked for interest). They have replied to say that it's in the to-do pile, and that nothing will be done until the courts have sorted it out. In the letter I mentioned that I am in finanical hardship, so they sent me a form to complete. I'm just a bit annoyed about that, as I rang them, maybe a month ago, and went through me finances then - so they wanted it duplicated:mad: . Anyho, I have filled it in (again) and sent it off to them. In their covering letter, they did say that they would try to help if financial difficulty can be proven. I think having £30 in the bank account once bills are paid is enough to prove my need!
I'm hoping for at least the fees to be returned. I've kept a copy of the costs they asked me to complete - so if I don't hear anything by August 1st, then I'll get onto the FSA, and state my case.
Let's see what happens.Biggest debt, £48,000.

First Direct! I was with them some years ago, but binned them, they are I think one of the worst banks I have ever had the misfortune to deal with,
Which surpises me as they are part of HSBC,, I have been with HSBC for years and generaly HSBC has been very good to me (so far) not the same for everyone I know, I think it largely depends on the branch itself that you deal with.
However, if First Direct do impose the fine (cos thats what it is) of £10.00 for having less than £1500.00 in the bank at any one time, I reckon they will lose a hell of a alot of customers, and share holders, "for whom the bell tolls" you might say.
Diggerb
This is utter rubbish, the terms say you need to credit £1500 per month or have another product, ie just a saver account, so you dont pay £10, i wish people would give correct info on here.0 -
