  • Just wanted to say to Martin and all at MSE that I am so inspired by your article. It came at just the right time as I have just gone to my First Direct account to find that they have racked up over £135 in fees for me this month as I exceeded my overdraft. I had contacted them to tell them I was with CCCS and launching into a Debt management Plan - They happily cashed my cheque to them and pushed me over my limit. .
I'm determined to get myself out of the financial mess I got myself into and thanks to everyone on this site(especially the DFW Board) I'm up for the long hard slog.
First letter goes off today to find out just how much I've been charged. fingers crossed!
By the way has anyone else tried First Direct and with what response?
    Hi,
I have Just settled with First direct after the third letter in the chain, before going to small claims court, not the full amount but close enough...over £2000 only £500 short of my claim, not wanting to be greedy I accepted!!
Address your correspondence to Melanie Dyson, Customer Services Manager,
    First Direct,40 Wakefield Road,Leeds,LS98 1FD.
    Hope this helps.

Hi guys I've read the thread on - What can be claimed - but I am a bit confussed with the terms on the statement:

    CHARGE UNPAID ITEM £37.50
    EXCESS OVERDRAFT FEE £25
    OVERDRAFT FEE £20.00

I know that I can claim the first two, but not sure about the third one??? Please help if you have expreince of this.

    thanks
:j Hi, claim for it all because they will try and settle with a lower figure anyway, i have just settled for over £2000. from a claim of £2800!!! good enough for me.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi

I am pursuing unfair bank charges from online bank First Direct but am unsure who to mail the correspondence to.
Does anybody have any info on who and where to post the letters.
Also, the £10 search fee is made payable to First Direct I presume?
    Many thanks
    Steve

    Hi,

I just want to find out if anyone has claimed bank charges from First Direct, and the process. I'm still trying to complete my first claim from barclays, now having my second court date as I was not seen on my first day. Thinking of taking on First direct. Can someone advise?

    Many thanks

Have written to First Direct asking for a full refund of bank charges including the interest. They have responded saying they will pay the bank charges minus the interest. They obviously reckon the court would come down in their favour. Has anyone successfully managed to claim interest back from these people or should I quit here? Cheers

Only a court can award interest so the bank will not be offering interest prior to any court claim.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
