Hi all
I am claiming £1587.56 including interest on behalf of my son.
He was offered £1220, which he refused.
So we filed a claim with the courts on 26th March 2007. Today he received from the court a 'Notice that Acknowledgment of Service has been filed'. This states that FD 'intend to defend all of this claim', and they have 28 days to prepare a defence. This sounds scary!!
Has anyone else received one of these notices? If so what was the outcome?
Might my son have to appear in court?
Or is this just designed to scare him, in the hope he'll back down?
By the way FD have switched his £1500 overdraft onto his credit card. So if he is successful in this claim he can pay it all off and be debt free. (He is moving back home this weekend so if he goes into the red again I shall be confiscating his credit and debit cards!!);)0 -
I'm not qualified to say whether FD will go all the way, but from other posts on this forum I believe it is a scare tactic, but don't quote me!
In saying that, if I was claiming that much and they offered me £1220, I would have bitten their hand off!!!0 -
I have just filed my claim online. I'm in a similar position to Cookie's son - asked for £926.50 and was offered around £650. Was initially going to accept as they've been generally pretty helpful but because I am in debt with them I realised that I would continue to pay interest on the remaining £300. Am very nervous about all of this but for me this is part of getting my finances back on track.
I'll be watching your progress with interest Cookie as I'm not going to be far behind you. I am new to this forum so apologise if this has already been asked.
Can I claim my credit card charges back( Co- OP) ? I have sent a letter about 2 weeks ago with a £10 cheque and it has been ignored.
I have also sent a cheque to First Direct and they sent me it back saying they did not need it also the 6 years statements which I have just sat down and calculated, it was a big shock over £1100.
I want to play it safe so not asking for interest back but wanted to know it anyone has calimed from First Direct do they ask you to move banks if you do claim from them ?
Thanks so much for any help
I successfully claimed nearly £3000 back from First Direct and have had no problems with the bank since then (a couple of months back). Falkirk Bairn0 -
I wrote to First Direct asking for a refund of £1084.56, this is made up of charges totalling £979.00 plus £105.56 statutory interest. They have just made me an offer of £832.00 as a full and final settlement of my claim.
My initial reaction is to not be too greedy and accept this, am i doing the right thing ?0 -
It's whatever is right for you at the time.
I wrote to Barclays asking for £1300 and they have offered me £945 and I think I'm going to accept.
I weighed it up as getting an extra £300 against all that extra paperwork and patience and probably having to wait another 6 months for all the court stuff to go through and eventually get a court date.
I know it may seem like giving up early but I think I'm willing to give up the extra £300 inreturn for having the money in time for summer and not having to do anymore chasing.0
