Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wed 23rd Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
DD1 is coming over to feed the ducks today with the foster children, the ducks were very pleased to see us yesterday, they probably aren't getting many visitors as the weather is so bad.
I need to tidy up the livng room, I have one corner swamped with wool where I was trying out a pattern for some baby bootees & kept changing wool & needles to get the sizing correct. I still need to get some marmalade & lemon curd made, I won't get much done tomorrow as I'm going to town to spend some vouchers that I've had since November & Friday, hubby is home for the day, he's prepping the ground ready to lay the last bit of decking.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

morning everyone. RANT ALERT - NEED TO VENT

Why have I woken up on the 3rd day running with a yucky sicky mirgaine and stiff neck? I feel ugh. Nothing can touch the pain (which although makes me slower than normal still enables me to function - bare minimum!). Argh And why in school holidays too???

RANT OVER Just needed to get it off my chest!

We're off for a family day out today. Taking the boys to legoland at the trafford centre. Yes its expensive, but we've not done anything else with them this half term - so I think that we'll do this. We'll call in and stay the night with FIL and then come back via my parents and drop the boys off for their 3 day holiday. They're so excited. And the best part is that I've managed to keep the legoland part a secret - don't know how!

Have already made a packed breakfast for us to have in the car this morning. Inevitable that they'll want lunch from a restaurant there so am of to see if I can find any vouchers. When I come back on Thursday I'm blitzing the house - children free zone for 2 days - yipeeeeeeee. Must get Thursdays dinner out of the freezer to defrost before we go.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

  • Morning Everyone!

I need some helpful advice... as part of my low GI I am eating Rye Bread for Breakfast (not Ryvita, but the soft german type bread with seeds in) I have been having it with pate BUT I have to stop as if we start TTC again pate is a no-no! I bought creamcheese, but I don't like it very much at all (and the carbs are pretty high for a cheese)!

So I am looking for something low Gi, safe during Pregnancy AND not to expensive (oh and Rye Bread is dry, so a spread is better)...

... I just can't see an answer.... but I am sure there is one!

Can you eat meat spreads when pregnant??? I asked Mr Google... with no luck!

    Thanks x

Today is just work... dinner is leftover freezer Spag Bol... just a normal day!

Hope you all have a good one x

    Jx

    Morning all

Haven't posted for a day or two but have been lurking.

Wet, cold and windy here this morning. Was really cold when I went out for jog at 5.45am, was incredibly hard work this morning, just couldn't get into it but did the best I could.

DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Boys still away but I will collect them after work today. Dinner last night was pasta with sauce, really quick and easy after working all day. Engineer coming back to my new washing machine tomorrow afternoon between 12-6pm, we have dentists in the morning so day is pretty much organised, then Friday I will need to go to the bank, town and food shopping in the morning and in the afternoon I have first appointment with the mental health team, have never been before so feel a bit apprehensive but need to do this and lay the ghosts to rest, or at least learn how to cope with it.

Looks like my bro and sis's families and us will be getting together at mum's at the weekend, hoping this will be ok, and Friday's appointment is not going to set me back.

Remembered to get the pork chops out of the freezer last night, so that's dinner tonight organised, will be mash, veg and gravy with it. Will need to have a think about tomorrow and Friday as meal plan was only done up to tonight.

Still trying with the losing weight, stayed the same last week but Saturday night was full of eating and drinking, which now I'm not used to but have been good since then, so will have to wait and see what the scales say on Friday morning!

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

  • Good Morning All

JulieG - can't help too much, what about something like dairyLea or primula or would the fat be too high.

Yesterday went very well, so many people there they couldn't all fit in the crematorium. Very sad but a good celebration of his life too.

Today should be back to normality. Have loads of office work to do. Have done the essential banking already and am popping round my sisters in a little while as its her 40th Birthday today. Gave her her main presents on Sunday but have a little something for her today as well.

Need to work this morning but will take the kids out somewhere this afternoon, no idea where. Maybe bowling? There is nothing at the pictures we all want to see at the moment which is a pity as I have odeon vouchers. This is my least favourite school holiday, the weather isn't great and everywhere indoors is so packed.

No idea re dinner today, may be a cheap KFC.

Oh I forgot to mention on Monday we have bought DD's prom dress. I wasn't looking forward to it but when she tried the one we bought on she looked so elegant and stunning we couldn't not buy it. Quite expensive but it is quality and some girls are spending over double the same amount!

Anyway best get going, have a great day all.x

    Morning :hello:
Not much OS going on here, I just wanted to pop in and give Redruby a massive 1sm098bighug.gif

House is still a mess, and miss tru is the cause of a lot of stress ATM. We've tried reasoning, then dictatorship. Neither worked, so she's now on one month's notice - change your ways or you're out. She seems to be making an effort, we'll see how it goes.

Must go, I have to get ready to go shopping, I have loo rolls to stockpile :D

  • Good morning everyone,
Hope you have good days out HH and ESMF.
Halight your girls will grow up all too soon. I don't know where the time has gone with my brood!
JulieG what about cannellini bean dips? You can add all sorts of flavours like mushrooms, garlic, beetroot...

Well it is grey and wet here yet again. So it is clothes washing and TD. I am hoping tomorrow will be line fine so I will do a load of bedding tonight and hope I get it out.

We will have lamb rogan today from yesterday's cook-a-thon and two tubs are stashed in the freezer.

Happy Wednesday folks, hugs to those in need or want, Silver x

  • Good Morning All

It`s wet here today. Haven`t ventured outside yet but will shortly going to take DD to work and DGS to nursery.
Then it`s back home and work for me.

Pleased to report that the ironing mountain has nearly been conquered :). That includes the 2 chairs full and part of the basket from the spare room. Hopefully I will get it finished today.
The only problem is then where to hang/store the clothes. I can see some serious decluttering ahead.
Then I`ve got to match the odd socks - must have about 100 of them  where do they all come from?
Need a clear light to do that though because they are mainly black ones.

Saw someones post above who mentioned pork chops for tea. Reminded me that I have pork steaks in freezer, so will get them out for later.

Have a good day everyone whatever you`re doing :)
  • JulieG - don't know about GI, but what about a lentil pate?
