  • Hi there. Just come back from tesco's with some free R&R's in mind. and......

    CAME BACK WITH NOTHING :(

Hardly knew what I was looking for TBH. All the video games, dvd's had stickers but there wasn't any SEL's.

Same with pretty much everything there. Although it was a small store.

Hope to go again, but to a bigger store soon.

Any advice for a newbie would be truely appreciated.

Rather bizarely found myself doing some shelf-stacking today....

Went for a nose in an Extra - I was drawn to one of the new box displays that holds DVDs, Games, Books and CDs.

Could hardly believe it when I saw a 24 Season 5 £24.97 SEL....

    ....but no DVDs on display.

Now I know that some of you are paranoid (The Dude is not) about security, the eye-in-the-sky, thermal imaging etc etc, but get this:

The box display was directly in front - maybe 6 meteres - of the CS desk - and at a right angle to, but directly in front of the front-of-store Security Dude - about 4 metres away.

I strolled away - got a handful of 24 Season 5 DVDs from the main aisle - circled round and approached the box display on a bombing run - ready to pull-up and abort if I felt I was about to be rumbled.

CS girls were busy - Mr Security was attempting to tickle his frontal lobe via a finger up his nose.

I stacked the box display - then took one back - paid - reported to CS - prompt R&R with a smile and 'Happy Christmas'.

Now whilst stacking the shelf was my personal choice - I wanted to make my purchase look kosha (sure enough the CS lady compared my DVD to one that I had stacked) the top-tip is....

...check those lovely box displays for old SELs 'cause you don't know what you might find....

    Duder

    Good work Sir.

Whilst I'm posting, will somebody please put me out of my misery and take those Apple & stilton Kettle crisps with a lower than scanning SEL in Coventry Cross Point. It's killing me every day I walk past it!!!!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I popped into Tesco today to pick up a couple of hot water bottles for the kids and because they were part of the 3 for 2 offer I looked for something else to go with them when I spotted the old favourite - new driver kit.

Kit was still in the black box marked £7.94 and scanned as £7.97 so I thought great - get R+R and the water bottles are then equivalent to buy one get one free. I didn't count on the CSA being a witch and coming up with her own reasoning behind the overcharge.

She said the price on the shelf is the price you should pay so I asked her why have a more prominent price on the box they are in? She then said well if there are two prices we can charge you either of them and you happen to have been charged the higher one - if you like I will refund the 3p difference.

I walked away and decided to ring HO and the guy I spoke to there told me the overpice policy relates to a difference between the shelf edge label and the price you are charged - it does not cover promotional boxes.

I couldn't very well say that it did last time I tried it but I can't believe they won't honour this now.

I don't want to raise my profile as I've done quite a few R+Rs over the last couple of weeks and I don't think its worth it over £8.
If I do push it will they want all my details as at the moment i'm thinking return the kit for a refund (I didn't want it anyway) and just get them on something different next time.

I think this must be the Official Line now when things are in these display boxes. I was told that my *purchase* had obviously been put into the wrong box by someone.
Yesterday, they were busy unpacking all the christmas stuff, I kept hanging around trying to see if things arrived in these shelf display boxes.

    Holsten Export 24x275ml Bottle £9.98
    (£1.52/litre)

    2 for £16.00 - valid from 08/11/2006 until 28/11/2006

yet this is not in store? anyone have any clues? chance of more r+R here? :p

In my local they have 9.98 on the stack but further down on one of the other lagers "2 for 16" which list about 8 different beer including the Holsten Export and the Bulmers Cider.
I was just about to recheck this thread as I think that's a definite R&R.

  • The SEL definately lists the Holsten as I have just seen them. Not sure whether they scan two for £16 or not as there appears to be some confusion.

FEAR for the 360 has definately gone back up to £39.xx as I checked in my local just but the SEL was correct.
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

I have been explaining the Tesco R&R policy to my brother. He misunderstood and when overcharged for an xbox 360 game in Asda, went to the CS and said "I have been overcharged for this game, so I get it for free don't !?" The CS said yes and gave him a refund of what he had paid (£39.97) as well as £1 and he got to keep the game.

Not sure if this was a one-off or not.

Sorry- wrong thread- meant to put in Tesco discussion area. Please move. Thanks

Bought some yesterday and the discount came off for me, so no refund. Hope that helps.

(It was the Holsten Export I bought)

He just phoned to share his story with me. Think he may become hooked too!
