I have what's now become a staple dinner for me and DH -

Use a few slices of chorizo/salami/any flavoured meat really
Gently fry in a big pot, add in chopped onion/leek/peppers/carrots/celery.... basically anything in the fridge/cupboard
Add a few cans of chopped tomatoes and a pint or two of stock
Add in can of chickpeas/borlotti beans/butter beans etc etc
Add in dried herbs and/or spices
Add in some tomato puree/garlic puree etc

Season well and simmer for about 30 mins, and it's delicious!

A simple easy soup, I add in anything and everything I have in the fridge and cupboards. Frozen peas and frozen sweetcorn can also be added, as well as anything else you have

And if you add less stock, it makes a lovely ragu type meal to go with pasta

  • I was going to try and make fudge and as my OH was going to the supermarket, asked him to buy condensed milk.....I am sure you can guess what he came back with..

I now have two small tins of evaporated milk and not a clue what to do with it. I'm not sure if I can use it in cooking (sauces etc) instead of millk...not really sure what it is.
I am off to google what it is but if anyone has any experience of the stuff.. please help.

Pak Choi is a chinese cabbage :) And tastes like cabbage, maybe kinda like lettuce

I have never bought it as a whole, but i find it in my stir fry packs.

Best to steam for a few mins or stir fry. Most recipes Ive seen have it with steamed fish, oriental style stuff really.

    :)

ok thanks :D - the neighbour gave me some and screamed when I told her I'd given it to the hens, I thought that's what she meant me to do withit ! :rotfl:
  • Thank you diflower.
That looks really interesting...I'll give it a go.
I did look on the carnation website but only bread and butter pud really. I got excited about a crumble type pud until I read that the evaporated milk was used to pour over!!!
I have horrible flash backs of my mum pouring it over tinned fruit cocktail.

  • I use evaporated milk for jelly, instead of the pint of water (?) to make milk jelly :)
